  • The Tauren & The Goblin #131: On Folk & Fairy Tales of Azeroth (Part III)
Nick and Katie are back to finally finish up their discussion of Folk & Fairy Tales of Azeroth! First they talk a little about how things have been going, and then they get into the stories.
First up is "Stones, Moss, and Tears" by Molly Knox Ostertag. This is a tale of found family among a trans Night Elf Sentinel, the scribe that records her deeds, and the alchemist that helps her court the scribe. Nick says it is his favorite story in the book.
Then they discuss "The Embrace" by Christie Golden. This is the telling of the Night Elf creation myth and discusses why the blue moon sometimes disappears. Nick talks about the power of Elune's tears. This also leads to a discussion about how myths are passed down through generations, and how that might work when the generations can last for over 10,000 years themselves.
Next they talk about "Why the Mermaids Left Boralus" by Tamsyn Muir. Katie runs through the plot of the mermaid and the tidesage that fall in love and then risk everything to protect Boralus Harbor. They also discuss where mermaids would fit into our knowledge of Azeroth, given that for 10,000 years the Naga have dominated the seas.
They also cover "The Courageous Kobold and the Wickless Candle" by Allison Irons. They both enjoy the twist that the Wickless Candle is the sun in the sky, and Nick takes advantage of the story featuring a grandmother sharing a tale with her grandkids to talk about the book overall is about sharing information that is obscured by the imperfect knowledge of an unreliable narrator.
Finally, they review "Visage Day" by Steve Danuser. Nick wonders when the Visage Day tradition started based on the Visages of the Aspects, especially given that Alexstraza is a high elf and the Black Dragonflight tend towards humans, both of which are younger races. Then they go through the story and talk about how well put together it was to cover Chromormu's transformation.

  • Squad Goals #14: Cerberus, Hades' Dogs
Nick, Chip, and Kurabara are back to talk about their ongoing experience in Mass Effect 1. After some chit chat about Minnesota and data pads, they get into talking about Cerberus and how they are present in the background of ME1 before having a more prominent role in ME2. Kurabara wanders how it was decided that they would be utilized in the later Mass Effect games. Nick talks about how shady they are as an organization. Kura questions if ExoGeni would have been as effective an opponent. Nick compares ExoGeni and Cerberus from an ideology standpoint.
The first quest they talk about is UNC: Colony of the Dead, which features as civilian colony turned to husks by Cerberus. Chip complains about the geography of the planet, with its steep mountains. Chip talks about how forgettable Cerberus' role in these quests was.
Nick then brings up everyone's choice for Shepard's background, as that ties into the next mission. UNC: Dead Scientists is about doctors being killed after they worked on Akuze, where Shepard survived a Thresher Maw attack. Shepard goes to the last doctor and finds that one other soldier survived Akuze, as the rest of Shepard's team were abducted by Cerberus after the Thresher Maw attack. Shepard then must decide whether to let the soldier kill the doctor or try to prevent that from happening.
Finally, they discuss the Hades Dogs mission, which starts with Kurabara blowing Nick and Chip's minds by pointing out that Hades' Dogs were Cerberus. Then they get into the details of the mission, talking about how Cerberus is able to stymie and pursue a Rear Admiral with little fear of repercussion. They talk about how Cerberus' agenda is hidden beyond the discussion of them attempting to make a Super Soldier. They they talk about the role of the Shadow Broker and whether they agreed to sell the data to the Shadow Broker or not.

  • Squad Goals #13: More Side Quests and Bring Down the Sky
Nick, Chip, and Kurabara are back to talk about the Mass Effect Legendary Edition! They jump right into it by talking about the Strange Transmission mission in the Hawking ETA. Admiral Hackett tasks Shepard with addressing a biotic cult leader named Father Kyle. The squad discuss how they handled the mission and whether or not they decided to let Father Kyle live.
Next, they talk about the Shipments in the Amazon Cluster quest. Hackett lets Shepard know that a probe with a 20-Kiloton nuke has been lost and Shepard must investigate to recover it. It is found in possession of a Turian pirate named Elanos Haliat who was responsible for the Skylian Blitz. Shepard must deal with the bomb and then with Elanos.
The next quest, Lost Freighter, deals with the MSV Worthington. Onboard, Shepard finds a brain dead man and his feral-like girlfriend who is protecting his body. After dispatching the girlfriend, Shepard must decide what to do with the body. This leads to a discussion about ethics and then a rambling consideration of the ethics of using husks to attempt to heal people.
Then the squad mentions the renegade-only quest where Hackett sends you off with the intent of you killing an obnoxious character. The squad talks about how Bioware is great at making characters so hateable that you want to murder them. Kurabara then brings up the Beseiged Base mission, which is the paragon only quest that involves protecting as many cult-members and hostiles while storming the base.
Finally, everyone talks about the Bring Down the Sky DLC. They praise Bioware for the increased cinematic scope and how it favorably compares to other quests in the game. They talk about how it involves additional cinematic sequences, and a handful of extra side quests as well. Kurabara talks about the introduction of the Batarians and how the image was changed in the codec.

  • WoW! Talk! #191: Strange Messages and Holding Them Accountable
This week, Nick, Rei, Eric, and Harv are back talking about what's been going on in Blizzard news. First, Rei talks about how she is doing all the things. She talks about how she has been earning gold across all her characters. She also talks about how guild recruitment is going including getting a guild applicant through the in-game recruiting tool. Rei also talks about the strange messages she gets on her character.
Eric talks about having made it up to Sylvanas in normal Sanctum of Domination. Harv also has been playing and talks about how he is finally catching up on all the 9.0 content he missed out on previously.
In the news, Echo defeated Sylvanas on Mythic to get world first. This was after they wiped at 49.6% and learned that the fight goes until Sylvanas hits 45%. Yoshi P, director of Final Fantasy, gave an interview in which he talks about how he doesn't want FFXIV fans to claim that Final Fantasy has beaten WoW. Also, /spit has been removed from the Burning Crusade Classic PTR. Nick talks about the two cynical schools of thought: that this was done to protect players who buy store mounts, and that this was done to deflect from the sexual assault allegations.
Nick talks about how the Blizzard employees are trying to hold management accountable. He mentions that Frances Townsend was blocking Blizzard employees on twitter. Also, the Blizzard employees staged a walkout last Wednesday. Alex Afrasiabi's characters and items have been removed or renamed in the game. Kotaku posted an article about the Cosby Suite. And Nick tries to figure out how he can help hold them accountable.
Finally, we look back at episode #91.
