Today, we would like to share a fascinating conversation with Karen Karniol-Tambour, the Co-CIO for Sustainability at Bridgewater Associates, the world’s largest hedge fund. Karen has been named to Barron’s list of most influential women in finance for the past 3 years and is a rising star in the hedge fund industry. She shares her perspectives on inflation and interest rates and how investors should allocate assets given the unique environment. Karen also covers her views on the energy crisis in Europe and ESG investing. We found the discussion highly insightful and hope you do as well.
Today we are excited to have two legendary investors together to cover their perspectives on the big picture. In 1975, Ray Dalio started Bridgewater Associates, which is now the largest and one of the most successful hedge funds in history. Jeremy Grantham co-founded GMO, a leading investment manager, in 1977 and currently serves as its Long-Term Investment Strategist. Ray and Jeremy are highly respected market historians, having studied major global trends over many centuries and been actively investing for five decades. They describe the major forces at play in today’s unique environment and what investors should do about it. I co-hosted this event with my friend Jim Haskel, who is the Editor of the Bridgewater Daily Observations. I found the discussion fascinating, and I hope you do as well.

Our next guest is a serial tech entrepreneur. Spencer Rascoff is the co-founder of several popular billion dollar companies including Zillow, a travel site called Hotwire, and Pacaso, which offers second home co-ownership. Most notably, Pacaso recently went from launch to unicorn, reaching a billion dollar valuation in just 5 months!
Spencer shares his background and vision when he started these companies, as well as his perspective on how technology will continue to impact the real estate markets and other industries. I hope you find the conversation as fascinating as I did.
Today, we have an intriguing conversation with media magnate John Malone. The “Cable Cowboy” became President of TCI (at just 29), transforming it into the biggest cable company in the U.S., and currently serves as Chairman and controlling shareholder of Liberty Media. John has been a leader within his industry for over 50 years and shares his unique perspectives on the future of media, communications and entertainment. As the largest private landowner in the U.S., John also provides insights into real estate investing. Finally, we cover two of John’s favorite topics: the US economy and education.
Today’s conversation is with the Co-CEO, CIO of Dimensional Fund Advisors (DFA), a $600B investment manager and pioneer in systematic investing. Previous guests in our series have offered their market perspectives. DFA, in contrast, takes a more scientific approach to investing by relying on established academic research. Alex and Co-CIO Damien Bisserier engage Gerard in an interesting discussion about the financial theories that underlie DFA’s investment process, a comparison of passive versus active investment approaches, the extended bear market in value investing (which remains a central tenet of their philosophy), and the benefits of exchange traded funds (ETFs).
Today we have a fascinating one-on-one conversation with the famed “Bond King” Jeffrey Gundlach as we continue our conversations with investors who we believe offer market leading insights. Jeffrey is the founder and CEO of DoubleLine, a $137 billion LA-based investment manager. We have an intriguing discussion about the election, interest rates, inflation and other hot topics that investors grapple with in today’s unique market environment.
Today’s special guest is Jeremy Grantham, who co-founded GMO, a leading $60 billion investment manager, in 1977. The conversation is wide ranging as Jeremy has a wealth of knowledge on topics such as investment bubbles, value investing, and climate change, and has been among the few investors ahead of market inflection points like 2000 and 2008.
I’m excited to have Bob Prince as my guest today. Bob is the Co-CIO of Bridgewater Associates, the largest hedge fund manager in the world and a firm that is well known for its macroeconomic perspectives. Bob will share his views on the uniqueness of the current economic environment, the risks of rising inflation, how to invest in today’s low interest rate climate and other major concerns looking ahead.
