Andrea is enthusiastic about the long-term performance and integrity of materials exposed to aggressive environments at the macro and micro level. She has experience in various industry sectors such as: transportation, oil and gas and tech. Andrea received her Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with concentration in Materials from the University of South Florida. And she holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Universidad Rafael Urdaneta in Venezuela.

She is currently a Semiconductor Packaging Quality and Reliability Engineer at Solidigm (pronounced: Soli-dime), a leading global provider of innovative NAND flash memory solutions, where she is responsible for leading the NAND package-level reliability qualification from concept to high volume manufacturing.

Andrea is a proud SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) lifetime member and a co-founder of the SHPEtinas program that focuses on celebrating and empowering Latinas in STEM. She is also the co-author of the recently published “Corrosion Management for a Sustainable Future” book published by AMPP (Association of Materials Protection and Performance).

Dr. Hanan Farhat is a Senior Research Director at Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute, and the founding director of the Corrosion Center. The first center of its kind in Qatar. Her resume also includes technical service management, as well as senior inspection and lead corrosion engineering positions.

Dr. Farhat is a registered professional Canadian Engineer (Peng). She holds international certifications in corrosion and inspection engineering. She is the first Libyan to be certified level III in Non-Destructive Testing and inspection, and the first Libyan woman to hold a an executive technical service position, and an inspection engineering position. She represents the State of Qatar in the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP), the International Standard Organization (ISO), and the GCC Standardization Organization. She is the founder and chairperson of the Qatar Forum for Corrosion and Materials Engineers.

Dr. Farhat is an advocate for women rights and gender equality. She is the founder and former Chairperson of the Qatar Women Engineers Association (QWEA). She also founded the MENA Women in Engineering, and currently acting as the chairperson of the group. Dr. Farhat received the distinguished women engineers contribution award from the Canadian Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist in 2005 for her work in promoting engineering profession to young females. She was also awarded the Women of Change Award on engineering creativity by the Doha Women Forum in 2022.

Johanna Chavez Lares is a Corrosion Specialist with a Chemical Engineering bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Corrosion.  She is also certified as Cathodic Protection Specialist by AMPP and in Risk Based Inspection by API.  She started her professional path in 2005 in the Oil and Gas industry at Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), where she developed Risked Based Inspection plans for static equipment, failure analysis and corrosion control by cathodic protection and coatings.

She has been a member of the Canadian engineering scene since 2011, when she started working at Englobe and then at Norda Stelo. She has worked on the design, evaluation and troubleshooting of cathodic protection systems, Risk based inspection analysis of static equipment, corrosion related root cause analysis, among others, for several clients.

Her chemical engineering background also allowed her to run the corrosion laboratory at Englobe.

Dr. Saenz de Miera earned her PhD in Corrosion and Protection from The University of Manchester, England, and her Materials Engineering, with a mention in Metallurgy, at Universidad Simon Bolivar, Venezuela.

As an advocate in the fields of materials and corrosion, Mirnaly participates as one of the executive directors for the ASM Ontario Chapter, ASM Materials Camp® -Teachers and NACE Foundation of Canada.

Mark Stonehouse, B. Comm, P. Eng., with Becht Canada, has over twenty years of experience working in mechanical engineering design and analysis for the petroleum industry, with a primary focus on pressure equipment. His experience and expertise includes stress analysis using the finite element method for design and fitness for service and includes a wide variety of FEA work performed involving plasticity, buckling, static, and thermal-transient analyses.

Mark has made various contributions throughout his career to ASME PVP, ICPVT, API, CSA and JPVT.  He joined IPEIA’s Program Committee in 2017 and has been a supporter of IPEIA as an attendee, presenter and exhibitor for over 15 years.

We'll sharing all the content of IPEIA:

- Increase awareness of pressure equipment safety, reliability, integrity and technological improvements associated with design, fabrication, maintenance, operation and inspection throughout industry.

- Provide knowledge and education for the continuous improvement of the pressure equipment industry (pressure equipment includes boilers, pressure vessels and piping).

We are having more interviews to enrich the knowledge in our field. The invitee for this time will be Mariano Kappes Ph.D.

Mariano Kappes obtained his Bachelor´s degree in Materials Science and Engineering at the Instituto Sabato in Argentina in 2006 and then obtained his PhD in 2011 at the Ohio State University. His PhD thesis was distinguished with the Morris Cohen Award, awarded annually by The Electrochemical Society to outstanding graduate research in the field of corrosion. Since 2014 he is a research scientist at the National Agency of Atomic Energy in Argentina and a Professor at the National University of General San Martin. Currently, his research is focused on environmentally assisted cracking and localized corrosion in materials used in nuclear power plants, pipelines and in the oil and gas industry.

In December 2020 Carlos got his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering with a specialty in pipeline engineering at the Pipeline Engineering Center from the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. His research focused on risk-based inspection and maintenance planning for unpiggable pipelines subject to internal corrosion. Since 2013 Carlos has been working for AMPP as an instructor for Cathodic Protection (CP 1 and CP2) and Pipeline Integrity (Direct Assessment and Pipeline Corrosion Integrity Management) and has taught classes in North America, South America, and Asia. Carlos also collaborated as an instructor for the online Corrosion Control in the Oil and Gas Industry class and was an instructor for the Maintenance Management Certification from the San Francisco University in Quito – Ecuador.
