Eliphaz rebukes Job for insisting on his own wisdom. He says that Job's stiff neck is what is hindering God from showing him mercy.

The spies Joshua sent to Jericho had a very different focus than those Moses had sent 38 years before. Joshua's spies were to assess the morale and fighting spirit of the fortress Jericho that sat astride the route from the Jordan valley up to the saddle of Benjamin. Similarly, God stopped the flow of the Jordan so that Israel could cross dry shod. This served to assure the Israelites that God was indeed on their side and would help them to prevail.

The ten days between Yom Teruah and Yom Kipur are known as the days of awe. It is a time to take stock of what one has accomplished in the past year and plan for the future. In doing this, one can draw inspiration from Moses. His accomplishments during the last month of his life were truly great. One can also draw inspiration from the martyrdom of Charlie Kirk. That event has catalyzed believers all over America and may turn out to be one Satan's great mistakes.

Zophar, the third of Job's friends to speak, opines that Job is getting far less punishment than he deserves. In this Zophar is presuming to understand both the mind of God and the heart of Job. The first is logically impossible and the second is presumptuous.

The end of the Wilderness wandering and preparation for the conquest of the land. Discussion of geography. Why the location of Israel is important and why the invasion started from the east through Jericho instead of from the south as had previously been attempted under Moses.

Deuteronomy 30 forms the end of a chiasm that began in Genesis 2. In the Garden God presented humanity with a choice between life and death. When we ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, we chose death for ourselves and our children. In Dt 30, we get a second chance at that choice. In this case Moses explicitly lays out the choice between blessing and curses and between life and death. He then gives us God's preferred solution - choose life - for yourself and for your children.

Bildad's first accusation: God does not do any injustice, therefore Job's problems are of his own making. Job's reply is that he is innocent, but there is no court to which he can go for justice when God is the accuser.

The prophet's message fits the times we are in. 'Their hands are on evil... the prince and the judge look for a bribe.' One cannot trust even family and neighbors. This is the judgment of God on His own people. Yet there will be a remnant whom He will lift up when His indignation has passed. That remnant will be those who trust in Him through these times.

Parsha KiTavo begins with a recitation of Israel's history preparatory to giving the first fruits and ends with a series of terrible curses. As it turns out, joyful fulfilment of the giving of firstfruits and the triennial tithe to support the Levite, the orphan, the widow and the stranger is the key to activating the blessings promised in Dt 28 and preventing the activation of the curses.

Eliphaz, the first of Job's friends to speak, rebukes Job for claiming that he is righteous and does not deserve the woe that has befallen him. Job answers that his friend's comfort is no comfort at all and the he is indeed righteous.
