2015 was the most recent year Mayo featured in a Connacht final and this year defending champions Roscommon stood in the way of a first provincial final appearance by the Green and Red in five years. Hot on the heels of last Sunday's Connacht Championship opener against Leitrim, Mayo are back in action this coming Sunday. The playing conditions were tough on a heavy pitch at Pairc Sean MacDiarmada in Carrick-on-Shannon on Sunday. The rain and the wind didn't help matters either but, thanks to a masterclass performance from Cillian O'Connor, Mayo opened their Connacht Championship campaign with an eleven-point win over Leitrim and now go forward to meet defending provincial champions Roscommon in the semi-final next weekend.

Just a few days have passed since Mayo's relegation from Division One of the National League but already the focus has shifted to the Championship, which swings into action across the country this coming weekend. Mayo have come out the right side of several dramatic final round games in the National League in recent years. To coincide with World Mental Health Week, Mindspace Mayo have been working hard to increase people’s awareness about positive mental health. As part of this effort, they've drafted in Mayo footballer Tom Parsons to launch a new pocket-sized information card they produced in association with Mayo GAA. The card — which is full of helpful tips and advice to improve people’s mental health and wellbeing — will be distributed to GAA club members in the county over the coming weeks.
