  • EirGrid looking for GAA Community Heroes

EirGrid, the operator and developer of Ireland’s electricity grid, have also been the main sponsors of our Club Stars awards for the last two years.
Recently, EirGrid also launched the second year of their GAA Community Heroes National Volunteer competition.
And with the deadline for entries coming up this Sunday night, we wanted to remind our MFT listeners why you (or somebody you know) should get involved.
The four provincial winners’ designated clubs will each receive €5,000, while there will be awards of €1,500 to the clubs of the honourable mentions.
An overall national winner will be selected from the provincial winners, and their club will receive an additional €5,000, for a total award of €10,000.
So there are plenty of good reasons for you to get involved over the next couple of days, and get your entry in before midnight this Sunday, May 17th.
Ciara Galvin, who is the Media Lead with EirGrid, joined Mike to chat a bit more about the competition and to explain how people can enter to be in the running for some great prizes.

  • Final Whistle - Mayo hammer Roscommon to close out league campaign

Mayo had it all their own way at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park this afternoon as they had 21 points to spare over Roscommon in a one-sided National Football League final round encounter. The result sees Andy Moran's team finish third in the Division One table, just missing out on a final place to Kerry on the head-to-head rule, thus guaranteeing a three-week break ahead of their Connacht Championship opener against London.

Rob and John were joined after today's game by Edwin McGreal to assess the importance of the result. We then hear post-match reaction from Andy Moran, in conversation with Mike, while Rob chats with fellow Ballinrobe man Diarmuid Duffy before Rob, Mike and John wrap up the show with a few final thoughts.

  • Roscommon Preview

Mayo's 16-point defeat to Kerry on Saturday was their worst ever in the National League but a win over Roscommon in the final round this Sunday could yet see them qualify for this year's Division One decider.

Host Rob Murphy is joined on the pod by Edwin McGreal and Nigel Reape to assess the damage done by the hammering inflicted by Kerry in Tralee and to look ahead to the challenge Roscommon are likely to pose, coming into Sunday's game in Castlebar having inflicted a first defeat this year on high-flying Donegal last time out. Ed considers how Mayo's performance in Tralee might impact the progress made to date this year while Nigel ponders how Andy Moran's team are likely to set up against Roscommon on Sunday.
