Strong Men Know Who They Are | Identity & Purpose
What defines a man? His job? His success? His failures? In this session, we dive into what Scripture says about identity and purpose. Far too many men build their identity on performance, accomplishments, or the opinions of others—but God has already spoken about who we are.
Through passages like Genesis 1:26–27, Ephesians 2:10, 1 Peter 2:9–10, and Colossians 3:1–4, we explore what it means to be created in the image of God, redeemed and chosen in Christ, and called to walk in purpose with confidence and stability.
This session challenges men to stop striving for validation and instead live from the identity God has already given them. When identity is rooted in Christ instead of performance, everything changes—how we lead, how we handle pressure, how we respond to failure, and how we pursue purpose.
Topics covered include:
Created in the image of God
Living from acceptance instead of striving
Walking faithfully in God-given purpose
How identity shapes discipline and daily life
Finding stability in Christ instead of performance
A strong man is not the one constantly trying to prove who he is. A strong man is the one who already knows who he is—and lives from it.
Questions to Consider:
1. When people ask who you are, what do you naturally base your
identity on first, and why do you think that is?
2. Have you ever gone through a season where failure,
disappointment, or circumstances affected how you viewed
yourself? What did that reveal about where your identity was
rooted?
3. In what area(s) of life do you feel the most pressure trying to
“prove” yourself?
4. Why do you think so many men struggle to fully believe that their
identity is given by God instead of earned through performance?
5. What does it practically look like to live from acceptance in Christ
instead of striving for approval from people?
6. Have you ever chased success, achievement, or recognition,
thinking it would give you purpose? What did you learn from
that?
7. How does unclear identity affect the way a man handles pressure,
leadership, failure, or discipline?
8. What is one area of your life where you need to stop trying to
prove yourself and start living from who God says you are?
