    Disciple- someone who has submitted every aspect of their life to the lordship of Jesus and is leading others to do the same.

    Hebrews 12:1-3 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
    You can’t carry out the mission of Christ without your eyes on Christ.
    1. Care for the lost. (2 Corinthians 5:11-16)
    2 Corinthians 5:11 Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience.
    2 Corinthians 5:12-13 We are not commending ourselves to you again but giving you cause to boast about us, so that you may be able to answer those who boast about outward appearance and not about what is in the heart. 13 For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.
    2 Corinthians 5:14-15  For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselvesbut for him who for their sake died and was raised.
    2 Corinthians 5:16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer.
    In the kingdom of God there are not accidents, there are assignments.
    2 Things you cannot do in Heaven.

    3.Commissioned by Christ as ambassadors.  (2 Corinthians 5:17-21)
    2 Corinthians 5:17  Therefore,  if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
    2 Corinthians 5:18-19 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
    2 Corinthians 5:20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
    Ambassador = An appointed and chosen representative.
    1.How far back would you have to go in your calendar to find an intentional meeting with someone for the purpose of leading them towards faith in Jesus?
    2. How far back in your text messages would you have to go before you could find a message where you were intentionally sharing the gospel with someone?
    3.  If last night Jesus saved every lost person you intentionally prayed for this past month how many new people would have salvation this morning?

    C - Contribute
    When it comes to membership in the church, it's not about OUR benefits. It's about HIS blood.
    1. We are not consumers.
    We don’t go to Church, we are the Church.
    1 Corinthians 12:12-13 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves[d] or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
    1 Corinthians 12:14-26 (break up however) For the body does not consist of one member but of many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? 18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 19 If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.
    21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, 24 which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, 25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.
    Organization vs Organism
    1 Corinthians 12:27 - Now you are the body of Christ and individuallymembers (melos) of it.
    2. We are not spectators.
    1 Corinthians 12:18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose.
    You have your reasons for being here.
    But what if God has His reasons for bringing you here?
    Ephesians 2:8-10  For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
    Your reason for coming may have been what this church could give you. God's purpose for keeping you here may include what He wants to give others through you.
    1 Peter 4:10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace
    STEWARDSHIP
    3. We are not just volunteers.
    Volunteering describes an activity.
    Servanthood describes an identity.
    What if my greatest ability is my availability?
    In the world, greatness is often measured by how many people serve you.
    In the kingdom of God, greatness is expressed by how willingly you serve others.
    John 14:12 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.
    Mark 10:42-45 And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
    Mark 10:43 “great among you must become” = Diakanos - Servant, minister
    Mark 10:44 “first among you must become” = Doulos - Slave, Bondservant

    COMFORT, CONTROL, POWER, APPROVAL

    ‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭6‬:‭10‬ ‭ESV For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

    What am I unwilling to surrender?

    Do I give?

    What does the way I handle money reveal about? Who/what I trust?

    What does love require?

    Grace should not make us less generous than the law.

    Is there a CROSS in your budget?

    God does not only see what you gave. God sees what giving it cost you.

    Is there a cross in my budget?

    1. Giving loosen money’s grip on my heart.

    ‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭6‬:‭17‬ ‭ESV‬‬ As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.

    “You are my servant, not my master.”

    2. Giving Strengthens my trust in God.

    ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭ESV‬‬ “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

    ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬ And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

    We don’t give to get. We give for glory.

    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭11‬:‭25‬ ‭ESV‬‬ “Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.”

    You can’t “out-generous” God.

    3. Giving allows you to invest temporary resources in eternal things.

    ‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭6‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭ESV‬‬ They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

    Giving turn temporary resources into eternal impact.

    Love creates obligations that love is happy to carry.

    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭16‬:‭2‬ ‭ESV‬‬ On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.

    Am I giving ?

    Is my giving intentional?
    Is my giving sacrificial?

    The Christian life is personal, but it was never meant to be private.
    1.God's words to us: Scripture.
    2. Our words to God: prayer.
    Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer.
    “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name..." Praise. "Your kingdom come, your will be done..." Purpose. "Give us today our daily bread..." Provision. "Forgive us our debts..." Pardon. "Lead us not into temptation..." Protection.
    Praise. Purpose. Provision. Pardon. Protection.
    Ephesians 2:13-14 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility

    God didn't just save you from something. He saved you into something.

And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
    Love one another. Encourage one another. Serve one another. Forgive one another. Carry one another's burdens. Confess to one another. Pray for one another. Build one another up. Be kind to one another. Bear with one another.
    YOU CAN’T “ONE ANOTHER” BY YOURSELF
    Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
    Don’t turn a legitimate difficulty into permanent permission for isolation.

    Our calendar reveals our theology better than our words do.
    You don't join a group merely because you might need somebody someday. You join because somebody may need you.

    Am I a member of MCC technically or practically?
    Why does gathering together matter so much?
    In regards to this family… “I want to be a consumer more than I want to be a member.”
    Don’t wait till a famine to realize you need a family.

    “There’s got to be more to life than this”

    Luke 14:18-19 - I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.”’

    We gather because something happened that deserves a celebration.
    Familiarity can turn a miracle into the mundane.
    Entitlement begins when yesterday's miracle becomes today's expectation.

    Church attendance is not only about what happens when you attend.
    It’s also about what doesn’t happen through you when you stay home.

    You do not have to start the fire to be guilty of spreading it.
    Is it true?
    Is it necessary?

    3. The Whisperer - “And a whisperer separates close friends.”
    Proverbs 26:20 says, “For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases.”
    If they talk to me about everybody else, what are they saying about me when I am not around?
    Have you talked to them about that?
    The worthless man whose words burn.
    The dishonest man whose words spread strife.
    And the whisperer whose words divide.
    Romans 5:10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
    Who needs different words from you this week?
    We do not just need wisdom from across the table. We Wisdom (Jesus) at the center of our lives.
    Father, change my heart.
    Jesus, become Lord over my words.
    Holy Spirit, give me the wisdom to know when to speak, what to say, and when to remain silent.

    Proverbs 14:30 A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.
    1. What is Jealousy & Envy ?
    Jealousy -  distorted attachment to self-perception, position, or power, stemming from a failure to trust God as the ultimate source of security and significance.
    Jealousy is the fear of losing something you believe should be yours.
    Jealousy says, “I’m afraid someone else is going to take what belongs to me.” (their attention, her affection, my revenue, my honor, my place in the inner circle) 
    Envy is a misdirected longing that emerges when desire is detached from gratitude and love toward God and what he has already given.
    Envy is the resentment you feel when someone else has something you want.
    Envy says, “I want what they have—and it bothers me that they have it.”
    Jealousy fears losing what you have.
    Envy resents what someone else has. 
    Proverbs 14:30 A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.
    2. How does jealousy/envy cause rot?
    Envy/Jealousy changes the way you see people, before it changes how you treat people.
    Matthew 6:22-23 The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
    Envy/Jealousy makes enemies out of allies.
    Who is your David?
    Proverbs 14:30 A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.
    “Like an angry, blind, half starred rat,  prowling in the foul-smelling sewers below street level …so is the person caged within the suffocating radius of selfish jealousy. Trapped by resentment, he feeds on the filth of his own imagination. “-Chuck Swindoll
    Jealousy doesn’t need facts to survive. It feeds on imagination.
    Proverbs 27:4 Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?
    Envy doesn’t only make you resent their blessings; it makes you neglect yours.
    3. How can I get a tranquil heart?
    tranquil - marpe (mar-pay) restored, healed, remedied
    A jealous heart doesn’t need a remedy it needs a replacement.

  • Wisdom House || You Should Have Seen It Coming
    Proverbs 27:12 The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it.
    Prudent - Arum  (ah-room) - crafty, wise, sensible. Having commendable foresight.
    Simple - pthiy (peth-ee) - open, impressionable, unformed in judgement. Morally untuned, rather than mentally deficient.
    “Trouble is remarkably good at finding me!”
    1. What keeps us from doing something about the danger we see?
    DENIAL & DELUSION
    I am susceptible to denial and delusion, because acknowledging that something is an issue would require that I take responsibility for responding the wise way.
    (If I don’t admit that it’s a problem, I don’t have to solve it.)
    Until you’re willing to accept responsibility for how you respond, everything wrong with your life will be someone else's fault.
    We don’t miss warning signs because they are invisible, we miss them because they areinconvenient.
    2. Why are the simple suffering ?

    They lack 3 things - Discernment , Humility, Courage
    Discernment - “I see the danger”
    Humility - “I can’t handle the danger”
    Courage - “I’m going to do something about the danger”
    2. Why are the simple suffering ? They “go on” .
    1.Where in life are you just “going on” ?
    2. If absolutely nothing changes about the way you are currently handling that area, where does this road lead?
    3. What does “Hiding himself” actually look like?
    Prudence ≠ paranoia
    Wisdom ≠ worry
    Proverbs 27:12 The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it.
    Luke 9:51 When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem.
    Proverbs 27:12--------------------------------------------The Cross
    Proverbs 27:12 - teaches us to avoid needless suffering caused by foolishness .
    The Cross  - Teaches us to embrace necessary suffering caused by faithfulness.
    At the cross prudence didn’t lead to self-preservation, it led to humiliation.
    Wisdom doesn’t mean avoiding all suffering. Wisdom means knowing which suffering should be avoided and which suffering requires obedience.
    There is suffering produced by foolishness and there is suffering produced by faithfulness.

    We have partially yielded expectations of what life is supposed to be like once I start following Jesus.

    Take Heart - Tharseo - means to take courage, be of good cheer (or be comforted in), confident  in
    Tribulation - Thlipsis - means to incredible pressure, affliction, or anguish.
    Overcome - Nikao - means to subdue, prevail, or conquer in the face of adversity - explicitly implies struggle or a battle
    Faith is not merely belief and intellectual but a Spirit-enabled participation in Christ’s triumph practically.
    Jesus shows us what perfect obedience to the Father looks like and empowers us to do the same, no matter what we go through.

    How long?
    “A little while.”
    John 16:16 A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.”
    John 16:17-18 So some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’; and, ‘because I am going to the Father’?” 18 So they were saying, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We do not know what he is talking about.”
    John 16:19  Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me’?
    John 16:20 Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.
    Never build your theology from the middle of the story.

    Pain is now interpreted through the joy on the other side of it.
