Proverbs 16:25 tells us, "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." How easily any one of us can fall into and travel along this pathway of what seems right to us. Our reason is brought into play. To reason is the ability of the mind to think, process, and make judgments, or decisions about what to believe or what to do. All of this is affected by something, or some things, or more importantly, someone or other. Human reason is not evil, it is just flawed, marked by the effect of sin.
This Proverb reveals something very dangerous and very dark about human reason. “There is a way that seemeth right…” literally means “straight” and it could be the right way, but obviously if it leads to death and not life it is the wrong way. The difference is the heart’s desire. Who does the person desire to please? Who is the driver of this life? Self or God?
Isaiah 35 tells us about "the way of holiness," which is not that which seemeth right to man, but that which is right to God. This is the way we must choose!
