Jesus takes a common Passover meal and reassigns the purpose and meaning. The church had been celebrating the meal for about 30-40yrs before Mark wrote the account of the Passover but everyone would have known the significant of looking back and forward. All through the gospel of Mark we're being set up for the last two moments that will be real time for Jesus and his disciples but have eternal impact.
