Steve McQueen’s Hunger (2009) may be the most affecting movie we’ve watched this season. Rage, hope, sorrow, admiration, awe…this flick is a (gorgeously-shot, impeccably-executed) rollercoaster, and once you get rolling, you’re on it until the end. So, so good. A Measuring Flicks recommendation, without reservation.

The Measuring Flicks Film School discussion of 1971’s Straw Dogs (dir. Sam Peckinpah) concludes with some uncomfortable realizations about the nature of violence, and the film’s clever use of violence to critique it.

Basically, we end up revering this film, and feeling like scum. It’s quite a feat.
