A subtype of white blood cell, the T cells are an important part of the body’s acquired immune defense. Their outer membrane includes the T cell receptor, which identifies and binds foreign substances and activates the immune cell. The Freiburg biologist Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schamel and members of his department are studying the function of T cells and other components of the immune system.
