In malnourished patients, chronic heart failure (CHF) is associated with increased mortality risk, according to a new study published in the Plos one.  Malnutrition has a high occurrence in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). The prevalence of malnutrition and its impact on all-cause mortality in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) were assessed using a meta-analysis.   Heart failure (HF) is an aggregate clinical syndrome, where various structural or functional diseases lead to ventricular filling and/or ejection dysfunction. The heart is unable to maintain sufficient cardiac output to fulfill the requirements of energy metabolism and adapt to the amount of venous return. Therefore, HF is the end stage of various cardiovascular diseases.

Suicidal depressed patients need rapid relief from suicidal ideation. Standard antidepressants may reduce suicidal ideation and behaviour in depressed adults, mediated by improvement in depression, but this effect takes weeks.   In recent study researchers from Columbia University found that ketamine, a subanesthetic drug, improves neurocognition in patients with depression and suicidal ideation within a day. The study findings were published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry

A recent study published in the European Urology suggests that Robotic Radical Prostatectomy is oncologically safe and maybe functionally superior, to open surgery for localised prostate cancer.   Radical prostatectomy reduces mortality among patients with localised prostate cancer. Evidence on whether different surgical techniques can affect mortality rates is lacking.  A team of researchers conducted a study to evaluate functional and oncological outcomes 8 years after robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP) and open retropubic radical prostatectomy (RRP)

In the recent Covid - 19 pandemic face masks were thought to be effective because they reduce viral transmission, their usage was made compulsory in control of pandemic.

Face masks have been associated with a range of deleterious consequences such as dry eye, spectacle lens fogging, itchiness , skin allergies, breathing difficulties, disturbed peripheral vision and headaches .

A randomised study by Carole Maldonado-Codina and team revealed that Contact Lens (CL) are a better vision correction option than Spectacles (Sp) when used in conjunction with a face mask. A range of benefits to the CL/face mask combination for vision-related symptoms, breathing and heat-related symptoms.

The findings of the study are published in Contact Lens and Anterior Eye.

A cohort study by Hinkle N Stefanie and team revealed that  Moderate intake of coffee in second trimester was associated with a lower risk for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), lower glucose levels at GDM screening, and a more favorable cardiometabolic profile compared with no consumption.  Further Caffeine intake was not associated with gestational hypertension or preeclampsia.  The findings of the study are published in JAMA Network Open.  The findings of the study might be reassuring for pregnant women with moderate caffeine intake and should be considered in the context of published data on associations with offspring health.

There is a lack of studies examining measures of cognition are related to DPN presence and/or cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy. Also, data regarding actors potentially explaining such associations are lacking.

A recent study has highlighted the association between diabetic peripheral neuropathy with lower cognitive performance in people with type 2 diabetes.  DPN was found to be inversely and significantly associated with measures of immediate recall and processing speed.

The study was published in the Journal of Diabetes and its Complications.
