In this episode of our “Senior SW Series,” we are excited to feature Ruihan Zhang, a Global Health major specializing in Public Policy. Ruihan shares her research on the interpersonal factors affecting sleep quality among healthcare professionals in China.

During her internship at the Hangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Ruihan observed that frequent night shift rotations had a negative impact on the well-being of healthcare workers. This experience motivated her to investigate how social support, social cohesion, and lifestyle choices influence sleep quality.

Her research highlights an urgent concern: poor sleep among healthcare professionals not only affects their health but also compromises patient care. Through extensive data analysis, Ruihan’s study emphasizes the need for systemic changes to better support those on the front lines of medical care.
