Matthew Roach (he/him/his) is from Hayesville, NC. Born and raised in the buckle of the Bible Belt, he was submerged in the culture of old fashioned, evangelical religion. All his life he knew he was not a straight male, but the leather lunged, mountain style preaching with hell fire and damnation imagery kept him in the closet, and ultimately led to years of suicidal ideation until he finally found the strength to accept his God-given identity. After confiding in a dear friend of 10 years, he was outed to the church, his family, and friends. As a minister of 8 years, a musician and worship leader since age 8- his coming out was met with intense resistance and ridicule. 

Through  all of the turmoil, the peace and freedom he now experiences has made the journey worthwhile, and he has a newfound excitement for the future. 

Matthew is in healthcare, is currently studying Medical Sonography, and has plans to relocated after college, and become part of an affirming church in an effort to once and for all love people as God truly calls us all to love.
