When Abe Gurko packed his bags and moved from New York City to Hollywood, he wasn’t leaving a career in the fashion industry to chase the usual dream of becoming a movie star. “I wanted to be a mechanic to the machine called celebrity.” He cultivated his skill set working with arguably the coolest woman in Hollywood, Carrie Fisher and acquired an intimate knowledge of the writing process and had a front row seat to the business of show.
His first documentary Louder: The Soundtrack of Change airs on MAX, October 17 and he is in development on Wolf’s Song, a recently discovered piece of music written in a concentration camp as a song of resistance to the Nazis, that is being transformed into a clarion call for social justice today.
Abe is living happily ever after in La La Land with his husband, Shlomi and their dog Alfie.

Today I focus on how my understanding of God has been skewed with a belief from childhood that led me to fear God. Do we need to fear God and is God angry and arbitrarily whacking us when we mess up? Today, I focus on comments and wisdom from the Bible Project Podcast regarding the Character of God and how we are active participants in our lives and our choices.
In today's episode I focus on the events of Hurricane Helene and the question many of us ask during times of devastating trauma, "Where Is God?" As a country is devastated and lives are lost and we know it will take a hard time to recover, where is God? How do we move forward and handle our own trauma? There is a special section of this podcast dedicated to anyone who has or is feeling suicidal. Please listen to the beginning of this podcast for my reflections.

Today we talk about being THE WORD in the darkness of all that we are experiencing in the world today. What is THE WORD? How do we bring our heart, hands, and feet into our world in a courageous, speak truth to power, in a light filled and loving way? Why would we?

Today we talk about a passage of scripture in the Gospel of Mark, (Mark 7: 1-8, 14-15, 21-23) that is so relevant today in our walk with God and also the values we hold. It is introspective, as well as, something relevant to all of us in the world we find ourselves today.

Today we talk about how Jesus is always compassionate, patient, and supportive on our worst days just as he is on our best days. Peter, the apostle, shows us today how he can royally screw up time after time, and how Jesus demonstrates for us how he will treat us when we are like Peter! There is HOPE for all of us!

Today we talk about the power of connections. How do the connections show up? How do we benefit from connections even when we love to isolate or experience social anxiety? The power of connections right now is so very important for our well being and our faith. Lean in with me and let's support one another.
In today's episode I talk about what we can do to be love in action by sharing my very first sermon that I just preached at my parish this past Sunday! We CAN transform ourselves and our community with love.
