What does it mean to be Peranakan today — and how do we carry our culture forward?
Glenda is joined by Benedict Khoo and Ryan Ng from Baba Gabra for a conversation between NextGen Peranakans about growing up Peranakan, reconnecting with our roots, Baba Malay, pantuns, identity and belonging.
We explore how cultural continuity can begin not with preservation or obligation, but with curiosity and finding our own ways to identify with, own and live out our culture.
Part 2 continues the conversation: What can Peranakan culture offer the world today?

Following our first episode, nearly 60 members of the Peranakan community shared the cultural values that matter most to them. In this conversation, I’m joined by my father, Alfred Chi Teck Yam, as we explore the stories, memories and everyday experiences behind four values that continue to shape our family and culture: respect, creative expression, heritage and inclusivity.
What cultural value has shaped your life the most, and how are you living it out today?
We’d love to hear your stories and reflections.
This is our first episode on Being Peranakan: An Intergenerational Conversation, featuring Aunty Margaret DeSilva, former Vice President of the Peranakan Association Australia; Dr David Neo, who researches and writes on Peranakan culture; and Corrina Chong, a proud Peranakan in her twenties.
In this episode, we explore identity, belonging across generations, and what gives us hope for the future of our culture.
What does it mean to live out our identity today, and how do we carry it forward?
This is the trailer for Meet Me at the Bridge. In this short introduction, Glenda Chi shares the heart behind the podcast and the central question it explores: How do we live authentically, shaped by where we come from and the cultural values we hold, while taking ownership of who we are? Meet Me at the Bridge is a podcast exploring identity, belonging, culture, and community, hosted by Glenda Chi. Drawing from her own Peranakan heritage, the podcast expands into…
How do we live authentically, shaped by our cultural values, beliefs, and experiences, and still take ownership of who we are? And if each of us did that, what kind of communities would we build together?
Through family stories and conversations across generations, we peel back tradition to uncover the values underneath and what they mean for how we live today in our families, our workplaces, and the wider communities we’re part of. This isn’t about preserving culture from a distance. It’s about living it in the way we live, work, and relate to one another.
If you’re navigating identity, seeking to bridge generations, or wondering how to honour where you come from while shaping where you’re going, this space is for you.
