In this episode, we have conversations about the tragedy of the Tuskegee Experiment (1932-1972) and how it has affected mistrust between the African American community and the science/medical community.

Dr. David Blackwell shares needed perspectives – especially considering the current atmosphere of the COVID-19 pandemic -- by helping us understand the facts, processes, and procedures to speak truth, hope and encouragement as we move forward.
He is an advocate for people of color having a place at the table to become an integral part of the medical and scientific process and is one of the founding members of the Black Directors Health Equity Agenda (BDHEA), an organization that “exist(s) to ensure that black families thrive, by eradicating the health disparities and inequities that threaten their individual and collective prosperity.” (From BDHEA website)

We start this incredible 3-part interview with discussions on Health Equity for African Americans and concerns towards the medical field that have hindered people from trusting and accessing healthcare.

You’ll hear how Dr. Blackwell is working in the Global Health arena to “move the needle on health equity from the top down” to increase awareness and institute change for access and ability for individuals – especially those in the minority population.

Unraveling emotional stories from his childhood (bullying, racism, etc.) has been part of the "middle of his journey" that he believes will be an on-going process for him.
