Sara Cunningham went through a Faith Crisis when her son, Parker, came out to her when he was 21. Looking back, she realizes that she used diversion tactics to avoid giving him the opportunity to come out to her when in he was an adolescent. Sara fought her fears of her son going to hell with prayer, fasting, and burning sage. She was lost. She joined a mom‘s group on line with 250 women to get support and to ask questions that she couldn‘t ask in her church. She studied Science, Human Sexuality, and the scriptures to find the answers. Sara is now the founder of the non-profit organization Free Mom Hugs because she realized through her research that her son was not going to hell for being gay and states; ”Homosexuality is a gift from God to the world.” She believes that when Christians shame people that is the worst sin and that no one has the right to use someone‘s faith against them. Sara is a beacon of light for the LGBTQIA+ community. Sara stands in her authentic self; regretting that she missed out on her son‘s adolescence as she struggled to get through her own faith crisis in order to save her relationship with her son. Now, she is the life giving support to our community; one hug at a time.
