  • Meet the meQuanics - E54 - Dr. Sabine Hossenfelder (Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies)
I'm delighted to be joined today by Dr. Sabine Hossenfelder. A traveller from the field of cosmology and quantum gravity research, Sabine authored a widely read article for the Guardian and a subsequent popular Youtube video regarding quantum computing and the goal of reaching quantum supremacy.
We speak about Sabines interests and criticisms of the both the quantum computing community and the high energy community, her popular book, Lost in Math: How Beauty Leads Physics Astray and what she thought of the recent announcement from Google claiming to have achieved quantum supremacy with their superconducting platform.

  • Meet the meQuanics - E53 - Quantum Supremacy (A. Montenaro, M. Bremner, R. Mann)
Today, a major result in Quantum Computing was published in Nature. Google has reported its achievement of Quantum Supremacy, the term given to the point where a quantum processor can outperform any classical supercomputer at a specific task.
The theoretical backbone of Google's quantum supremacy protocol has been developed over many many years. In this episode of the podcast we are joined by researchers who have been intimately involved in the development of these computational protocols.
Joining us today is Ashley Montenaro from the University of Bristol, Michael Bremner from the University of Technology Sydney and Ryan Mann from the University of Bristol. We discuss the evolution of the theoretical work that has underpinned the Google experiment, the result itself and what hopefully comes next.

  • Meet the meQuanics - E48 - A/Prof Rod Van Meter (Keio University)
Today in a very gracious manner, Dr. Nana Liu from Singapore has taken over hosting duties for the podcast. While in Berlin, she caught up with Rod Van Meter who was a previous guest early on in the podcast. Rod has recently been appointed vice chair of the Keio university quantum computing centre, which is one of the hubs for the IBMQ network. They sit down for a pleasant little outside chat.
