Are you a daydreamer? A storyteller? Do you have a kid whose imagination runs wild? That might not help you when you're stuck in class or work, but it may come in handy for your prayer life. People have used their imaginations in prayer since forever, and this episode invites you to practice a method of prayer popularized by a Spanish nobleman best known today as St. Ignatius of Loyola. St. Ignatius believed that God created the whole world, including the human imagination, for the purpose of drawing us closer to him. So join Nicole Smalley as she leads you through an exercise meant to give you the ability to put yourself into the story. Appropriately enough, it’s called imaginative prayer.

What if music could be more than just the pleasant background noise of our lives? What if – when we engage it the right way – music has the power to renew our compassion, comfort our souls, and bring us back to our deepest desires for life?

Join us alongside Mark Burnett for an exploration into the world of music therapy. Burnett is a Neurologic Music Therapist with the MacPhail Center for Music, with specialized training in sensory, developmental, and educational health.

Together, we’ll explore what music therapy is and how engaging music more intentionally can lead us to happier and more fulfilling lives.

"What would happen if we took the word ‘gospel,’ a word that has been traditionally used in a Christian context, and opened it up to broader usage?" This is the question that Ebony Adedayo explores in her book, "The Gospel According to a Black Woman". Adedayo asks us to consider if truth can be found, not only in sacred texts but also within the sacredness of Black women’s experiences. Taking a critical look at history, culture, and the sacred, Adedayo concludes that when the truth of Black is upheld and validated, Black women get free. With everything going on in the world, and most recently the invasion of Ukraine, you might be wondering how to talk about the news with your kids. This week, Nicole and Patrick Smalley reflect on how you can initiate these conversations.

"The Rhythms of Faith" Christian is joined by Mark Patrick, Care Pastor, to talk about Lent. They explore the meaning of Lent, as well as some of the key practices which Christians have taken up during this period (Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving). They also discuss the many different opportunities open to our church community for entering into the Lenten journey with Jesus.
