Research on the link between climate change events and PTSD, Major Depression Disorder and Complex Grief has been documented since at least 2018 - have you noticed this existential trauma seeping into you?
But what if you’re an Environmental Scientist like Floss Sturgiss? And every part of you is geared toward preventing species from becoming extinct; when you’re on the frontline of seeing the balance of nature collapsing as a direct result of utterly preventable choices, on a daily basis? How do you keep a calm head on your shoulders and carry an open heart in your chest?
This episode takes you into the beautiful and wild landscapes of Australia, the climate change events ravaging them – fires, floods, mass extinctions – and one woman’s enormous passion to dedicate her life to alter the trajectory we’re all on, unless we all start putting caring for Country at the very top of our to-do lists. This is a story of not coping, of learning how to cope, of how to do the big things, of an initiation by fire and the wisdom that appears perfectly on cue.

Corporate roles and leadership positions are often fraught with heavy handedness and a very real sense of power imbalance; with characters who perpetuate this idea that to be at the top, you have to fight and fear your way there. Then there are those people - like the guest in this episode - who with big smiles and caring words, brush that myth into the fire.
Understated, unassuming, extreme talent. That's how I think of Meagan Loader. A woman who has helped shape Australia's musical landscape through her roles at triple j, Double j and FBi Radio, building wonderful relationships across organisations that make up the nation's musical weave and by nurturing many a radio broadcaster to fame.
How does someone become so tender and how can it work in your favour in the role of BOSS?

Can you think of a person in your life who just seems able to genuinely see and experience the joy in everything? Who isn’t riddled with anguish, doubt or fear and who makes you feel better just simply by being there? An osmosis of good vibes – a combination of lightness, openness, attentiveness, safety and love. Like they just really like who you are and in that glow of how they perceive you, you start to like yourself a little more too? A person who reminds you that humans can be aok.
In this episode I present to you one of those rare unicorns – a man who’s experienced gut-wrenching heart exploding pain and transformed it into a most enthusiastic love for this crazy human adventure.
Gwyn Williams is a teacher in different forms, the creator of the ever-expanding modality of zenthai shiatsu and the possessor of one of the best laughs on planet earth. Drop the shoulders and relax into the profundity of this mischievous mystical man.

A believer in nuances and a great supporter of the capacity of every day humans to love and care for each other, Ash Grunwald is a contemplative creature, on a never-ending odyssey to get to the heart of this wild human life.
His journey has it's roots in South Africa, in authoritarianism gone wrong, of strong-willed parents, in late rebellion and a powerful drive to be a decent human being. Spending his life either in the ocean, on stages all around the world or in the company of the people he loves the most - his wife and two glorious daughters - on Bundjalung Country, Australia.
In this episode Lissie lovingly dissects her good friend's story, his mind, his worries, his aspirations and his most philosophical musings on life, death and the maintenance inbetween.

Message From The Bottle: Stories Of Sobriety
One afternoon during a rather lovely but uneventful book club, someone that I had known in various incarnations – my son’s school teacher and fellow lover of books – very lightly dropped her own story like a bomb into a calm sea - hitting the surface of this casual gathering and then as if in slow motion, commanded with such steadiness by this woman in control of it’s affect, it’s splashback rose out of that quiet setting high into the air and sent waves of disbelief, grief and awe through a little Byron Bay book club.
In this episode, that story is shared. And in it a message of connection for survivors, a warning to abusers and a reminder for all of us, that we just never ever know what could be sitting deep in the heart of anyone, no matter how it seems on the surface. This is a conversation about how we surmount that huge obstacle of silence and a reflection for me personally on how in this episode, I do not even broach the massive part of the conversation around how the heinous behaviour of perpetrators, that's so very rampant, is stamped out. That we will address down the track.
This story belongs to Abelia Hissink, the fighter, the survivor, the author of her own adult story. The Mother, Wife, Teacher and all round excellent human being.

In this very special episode I nerd out with Cultural Advisor and Co-Founder of Firesticks Alliance Indigenous Corporation, Oli Costello, about trees and landscapes but if that's not your bag, well that's even more reason to hang in there! This chat goes deep and wide. Into connection, to hard times, finding our ways to keep putting one foot in front of the other on this crazy adventure called life. Read on!
Each and every one of us is a melting pot of everything that has come before. A million golden threads extending back through time, connecting us to everyone in our ancestral lines and in more subtle ways, to everyone who crossed each and every one of their paths.
What does that feel like when two threads extend back, not that long ago, to seemingly opposing sides? Where do you land when you carry the stories of both Aboriginal and of convict? What does that present within a human who is the product of such a weave and where do you turn the energy of that combined ancestral trauma? Bundjalung legend Oli Costello's ancestral threads, carry the weight of British oppression on both sides. Those who were stolen from their families and homeland of Britain and those who's lands and people were stolen by the British here in what came to be known through colonisation as Australia.
Oli turned to Country for answers and learning, and in it he found fire. Fire to heal, to find identity, to reconnect with place, to channel life's complexity into reviving landscapes. This is the story of the many golden threads of @olicostello

This podcast is all about exploring what it means to be human. What traits, qualities and experiences we share, no matter how different we are and in searching for and celebrating our differences,…
Do you ever find yourself plagued with uncertainty? Paralysed by self-doubt? Are you ever confused about what to do, how to behave, what to say or even what to feel? Being human is weird. It comes with no instruction manual, it’s riddled with contradictions and as we age we seem to get less and more wise, just when we think we’ve figured something out, everything changes, again.
This podcast is that missing handbook - in which we go deeper than just the details of the stories and by looking through different lenses, we find the things that truly make us…human.
My name is Mel Bampton, I’m a presenter, a speaker, an author and a therapist and in this series I’m bringing all those things together to help you agonise a little less by understanding a little more the things that are fundamentals, not flaws, of what it means to be one of this bizarre and curious species.
This is the podcast where you learn to become a little kinder to yourself by first and foremost understanding what you fundamentally are.
