It's not Part 2 of the 'Burgh, but there will be that, perhaps next time? Well? It was the first world I ever knew--I knew what radio and records were real early on, but what I didn't know was that a whole bunch of stuff I was hearing on the radio started in practically my own backyard! And I didn't know how good I had it 'til I left it in the mid/late 80s. But I'm here to tellya, there's  so much great 'Burgh music--way more than I remembered at first--that it'll need to be in two episodes. This episode, "Pittsburgh Rocked My World, Part 1" covers 1955 to about 1980--and Part 2 will pick up with the early 80s until about the mid ought-teens, in episode 9. The Youtube complete playlist has 64 videos--the first 32 are from artists covered in this episode, and the other 32 are for Episode 9. All this and more, hailing from the most beautiful shot-and-a-beer kinda  town in the USA. I'm officially homesick now.  I've never even sat in Heinz Field or PNC Park yet!!  (sniff) #hometownproud

You gotta understand--hailing from the only other part of New York City that wasn’t actually physically a PART of New York City, unless you crossed some body of water or other to get there, was a little….weird. In fact, up until about 1964, you really couldn’t even get there any other way than by boat, because until then, there was no Verrazano-Narrows Bridge for them to cross back and forth. But SI found a way to make its own impressions. At some point, if you really, really wanted to make it, you had to make the jump to Manhattan. But, you could also be stubborn and do it your way and still get somewhere…
