Nicht selten nahm der Buchautor und Fernsehjournalist Hubert Seipel in den vergangenen Jahren in den Sesseln der ARD- und ZDF-Talkshows Platz. Seine „Expertise“ war gefragt. Nur selten fielen den zuständigen Redaktionen seine kremlnahen Aussagen auf. Inzwischen ist bekannt, dass er für seine Putin-freundlichen Bücher und Filme direkte Zuwendungen aus Moskau erhielt. Eine Ausnahme? Was müssen die Medien aus diesen Vorfällen lernen? Darüber sprechen wir in der aktuellen Ausgabe von MEMORIAL Deutschland - Der Podcast mit der Osteuropa-Historikerin Franziska Davies von der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.
Als „streitbare Osteuropa-Expertin“ wird die ehem. Journalistin Gabriele Krone-Schmalz auch gern ins deutsche Fernsehen eingeladen, schreibt Aufsätze und Kommentare für Tageszeitungen und Magazine. Doch was als Mittel von Meinungsvielfalt präsentiert wird, erweist sich schnell als Verdrehung von Fakten, ganz im Sinne des Kremls.
Das Fass zum Überlaufen brachte ein Vortrag der prominenten Putin-Verteidigerin an der Volkshochschule (VHS) Reutlingen, in dem sie die Ukraine zum „Handlanger des Westens“ erklärt und der „Arroganz des Westens“ große Mitschuld an der aktuellen Lage und dem Krieg gegen die Ukraine gibt.
Die Osteuropa-Historikerin Dr. Franziska Davies von der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität zu München nahm die Aussagen von Krone-Schmalz in mehreren Aufsätzen auseinander und bescheinigt ihr darin einen unseriösen Umgang mit Quellen sowie den umfassenden Einsatz von Halbwahrheiten und Verdrehungen.
Im Interview mit MEMORIAL Deutschland erklärt Davies an Beispielen die Arbeitsweise von Krone-Schmalz und beleuchtet die Verbreitung russischer Narrativer in Deutschland.
Im aktuellen MEMORIAL-Podcast übt Davies dabei nicht nur heftige Kritik an Frau Krone-Schmalz und ihren unseriösen Arbeitsmethoden, sondern auch an deutschen Medien und Einrichtungen wie der VHS Reutlingen. Viele Talkshows setzten mit diesen Gästen auf Effekte und Krawall, statt auf gesellschaftliche Aufklärung.

Vor 70 Jahren starb der sowjetische Diktator Josef Stalin. Anlass, um über sein Terrorsystem und die Auswirkungen der sowjetischen Diktatur auf Deutsche in der Sowjetunion zu sprechen.
Die aktuelle Sendung ist eine Koproduktion des Kulturreferats für Russlanddeutsche am Museum für russlanddeutsche Kulturgeschichte und dem Podcast "Steppenkinder" sowie "MEMORIAL Deutschland - Im Gespräch".
Zu Gast: Die Historikerin Dr. Anke Giesen beschäftigt sich seit den 1980er Jahren mit der Aufarbeitung des Stalinismus. Mit ihr sprechen wir über die Dimensionen und Auswirkungen des sowjetischen Totalitarismus, der Rolle Josef Stalins darin, um die Vergleichbarkeit mit dem Nationalsozialismus aber auch um den Stand der Aufarbeitung in Russland und Deutschland. Sie ist Vorstandsmitglied der in Russland gegründeten und mittlerweile dort verbotenen Menschenrechtsorganisation MEMORIAL International und MEMORIAL Deutschland.
Der russische Einmarsch in die Ukraine kostete und kostet nach wie vor Hunderttausende von Opfern. Millionen sind gezwungen, ihre Wohnungen zu verlassen, einige schon zum zweiten oder dritten Mal. Jede dieser menschlichen Geschichten, geprägt von Terror und Gewalt, Unterdrückung und Grausamkeit, ist einzigartig und wert, erzählt zu werden.
Das Projekt „Stimmen des Krieges“ von MEMORIAL Ukraine will diese Geschichten der Weltöffentlichkeit nun zugänglich machen, damit die Untaten der russischen Armee nicht in Vergessenheit geraten.
„Stimmen des Krieges“dokumentiert den Mord an Zivilpersonen, Folterungen, Deportationen, die Vernichtung historischer Denkmäler und andere Verbrechen, sie werten offen zugängliche Quellen mit modernen Untersuchungs-Techniken aus. Ziel ist es, Präsident Putin für seine Gräueltaten in der Ukraine vor Gericht zu bringen und die Belege der Zeitzeugen der Weltöffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen.

Der Bedarf ist groß: Seit dem Überfall Russlands verlassen immer mehr Journalistinnen und Journalisten das Land, um im Exil weiter für die Pressefreiheit tätig zu sein, der Moskauer Staatspropaganda Fakten und Journalismus entgegenzuhalten, die diesen Namen verdienen. Auch die Zahl der flüchtenden Medienschaffenden als Belarus nimmt stetig zu; ebenso der Kolleginnen und Kollegen in der Ukraine, deren Redaktionen teils durch die russischen Bombenangriffe zerstört wurden und die nicht länger unter der täglichen Lebensgefahr berichten können. Der „JX Fund“ hilft diesen Menschen. Ein Fördertopf, zusammengeschlossen von mehreren deutschen und internationalen NGOs und Stiftungen, konnte so bereits 44 Redaktionen und 900 Medienschaffenden den Weg in einen Neubeginn in der EU oder Georgien ermöglichen.

Deportationen in der Sowjetunion aus der russlanddeutschen und tschetschenischen Perspektive.
Seit der deutschen Wiedervereinigung kommt die Mehrheit der ZuwanderInnen aus den Nachfolgestaaten der Sowjetunion. Wenn die Gründe ihrer Zuwanderung auch vielfältig sind, so teilen viele von ihnen doch ähnliche Kollektiverinnerungen: ihre Eltern und Großeltern waren aufgrund ihrer jeweiligen ethnischen Zugehörigkeit unter Stalin pauschal der Kollaboration mit der deutschen Wehrmacht verdächtigt und nach Zentralasien und Sibirien deportiert worden. Kollektive Zwangsumsiedlungen, wie die Deportationen in der Sowjetunion, hinterlassen Spuren und wirken über Generationen hinweg in unsere Lebenswirklichkeiten hinein.

Unabhängige Medien gibt es in Russland faktisch nicht mehr. Auch die Büros der Deutsche Welle (DW) mussten geschlossen werden, die Mitarbeiter wurden des Landes verwiesen. Doch die Arbeit geht über ein Exilstudio in Riga weiter.
„Russische Menschen suchen gezielt nach Informationen zu den Ereignissen des Krieges in allen Facetten“, sagt Christian F. Trippe, Leiter der Hauptabteilung Osteuropa der DW. Bis zu 400.000 Menschen erreiche das russischsprachige DW-Nachrichtenmagazin tagtäglich allein bei Facebook, trotz aller technischer Blocken der russischen Behörden, sagt Trippe.

Dutzende Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter der russischen MEMORIAL-Verbände sind auf der Flucht. Viele von ihnen suchen Schutz vor Repressionen des Kremls im Ausland, auch in Deutschland. Ein innovatives Projekt will ihnen eine Perspektive in Deutschland bieten, doch die deutschen Behörden zeigen sich teils behäbig in ihren Entscheidungsfindungen. Ungelöst sind weiter die Probleme des langfristigen Aufenthalts.

Während am heutigen Tag des Sieges am 9. Mai Raketen und Panzer als Zeichen militärischer Stärke und des Angriffswillens über den Roten Platz rollen, demonstrieren bereits knapp 65.000 Menschen digital auf dem Roten Platz gegen Präsident Putin und seinen Krieg.
