I am a big believer in starting a new year with goals and a direction. I like having a focus, whether that's goals, dreams, a theme word, whatever. Something I can think about and pull me back to what I'm setting as my priorities for the new year. I set professional, personal, and family goals. Each of these can be done at the same time, or at different times, but in this episode, I'm going to be focusing on setting family-friendly goals in a way that your kids will understand and enjoy!

In today's episode, I'm sharing some of my favorite ideas for celebrating New Year's Eve at home in a way your little kids will understand and enjoy! So full disclosure, New Year's Eve is not my favorite holiday. There can be a random pressure that comes with New Years. The pressure to go somewhere, do something fun and special, spend too much money, etc. But then...you're also a parent. Parents don't have the energy to take that all on, amiright? Staying at home in pajamas, family game night, fun foods, and movie marathons sound real good to me. But I also have a daughter who understands the concept of New Years a little more. She gets it and I want to start making the holiday more memorable for her...while keeping it easy and realistic for me.

On this episode of the Memories and Moments podcast I'm sharing my 5 Favorite Christmas Traditions (spoiler alert they are super easy and barely require prep!).
Christmas is all about family. Spending time with those you love most and creating memories they'll cherish for a lifetime. Does that always happen? No. #momlife. Do I often put unrealistic expectations on myself and my family for loving every moment of these experiences? Yes. I was scrolling Instagram, and a quote struck me. "Am I a perfect mom? No. Am I trying to be a perfect mom? Also no." I think this rings so true during the Christmas season. We want our kids to have a magical childhood they look back on with pride, but there's only so many hours in a day. We do what we can, and guess what? Our kids see it and remember it. It's sticking with them, I promise. It's the little things that they remember…which in all honesty, takes the pressure off! When all is said and done, and another holiday passes us by just as quickly as it came, I know these 5 Christmas traditions were things we enjoyed and will continue to look forward to doing again year after year.

I get asked a lot where I learn all of these ideas for creating moments for my family, and I always say my mom. My mom is the master at creating magical moments and traditions, I was blessed with the best childhood, and I knew I would carry her legacy on with my own kids. I was curious about where her inspiration came from, but it was no surprise it was from my grandma. Growing up, my grandma was always creating elaborate celebrations and making special occasions special.
In this episode, we talk about my mom's childhood growing up and how Christmas was the most special, memory-filled time, how moms today can start traditions with their kids in a realistic way, and why these memories matter in the long run. You also get a sneak peek into our family's most cherished traditions, and a couple little walks down memory lane between my mom and I! I love how she makes these moments so approachable and realistic for the busy mom. She really is such a pro!

Every year, I hear two major stressors for my party tribe when it comes to hosting a holiday party.
1. I am so busy at the holidays, that I always leave my party till the last minute and then I'm scrambling!
2. My house is not cute enough to host a party.
Let's address #2...WHAT. Your house has never been more beautiful than it is at the holidays. It's cozy, special, inviting, and warm. It's perfect...so let that one go please!
As for the first stressor...I get this one, and it's one I often feel at the holidays too. But today I've got my 5 steps that are going to crush this for you so after this episode you will be good to go, sister friend!
My #1 piece of advice? This is NOT the time to be the hero. You do not have to do everything. It's impossible and makes you dread your party, and that's terrible. So make me a promise that you will not try to be the hero and you'll let some things go this year so you can host a party you'll actually enjoy! Good, thanks!
