Hello and welcome to more wine. Wine mishaps and more, I am your host, Chandra savage. Welcome, welcome, welcome. So last week was very exciting because I was telling you all about pins and the whole month is full of prints, and tonight is not going to be any different. We just celebrated his birthday yesterday, so happy birthday to Prince. But tonight's episode is sponsored by Born Savage, LLC. It's an online store that specializes in women's activewear we also have unisex tees and bomber jackets, lots of leggings and I'm bringing this up because I launched a Prince collection on Born Savage, a couple of weeks ago and I'm very excited. I've gotten lots of great feedback on it, some sales too and it's just, it's been fabulous. So tonight, Born Savage is sponsoring Mo Wine. It's a family affair, everyone. You can shop the collection at www.bornsavage.shop
And tonight, we are going to be drinking an st Jacques wine from the Iberian Peninsula in Spain, the area is actually called Bierzo, and the main grape of Saint Jacques is Mencia, and that is the grape that we are covering tonight. I am excited about this wine we've had excellent value wines out of Spain, really robust, they are elegant, some of them a jammy some of them are chalky, some of them are chewy.
But tonight we're going to get into this new wine. Guess what color it is, it's purple. And I'm drinking it out of my love symbol Prince goblet tonight so, not just a regular wineglass for the occasion. You know we got to keep it purple. And there's no better way to keep it purple than to look at this beautiful dark purple color of this wine. it's a clear wine. And it looks interesting because there's a little hint of Garnet around the rim. So I'm interested to see what we are going to be having tonight, I'm going to give it a little swirl, get some air up in this piece.
Let's get into the nose because the nose, always news. I love that part. So, it smells like tea and wet rocks, I'm not gonna lie to you. It's not an ultra-sexy bouquet. But there's some spice in there definitely some pepper. But I just keep smelling wet rock and then the pepper and the spice, there's another spice in there like some type of baking spice, and maybe some cloves by, but let's taste it.
Yeah. So this wine has a lot of tannins in it, which is beautiful. It's a good, robust dry red wine. It's got medium acidity, the tannins are on the high side I just, I can't lie. It's got a beautiful body, like medium body medium to full body. And the flavor is tasty. Tastes like tea doesn't taste like wet rocks, but I definitely taste tea. There's definitely a pronounced pepper and spice in there as well some tart cherry, maybe like a little bit of BlackBerry on the back end, but is very structured. This wine has an excellent price point, I think I got it for around $16.99, and has about 13% alcohol. The Mencia grape makes these wines that are higher in alcohol, and they range anywhere from 13% to 17% so this is on the lower end of the spectrum. And I'm okay with that, but you definitely need to have this with some food.
You're definitely gonna need like a, like a turkey or some type of cured meats, ham, or some roasted meats, maybe some like pastrami, or salami something cured, to take the edge off of it, and that would pair nicely with this wine.
I'm not pairing it with anything this evening, I had dinner very early on I had a busy day and I was recovering from all the celebrations from last night, but you probably wondering how am I going to tie in Prince and wine, besides the wineglass. Well, I want to give you a fun fact. In 2019 Netflix released this movie called wine country, and it was staring Myay Rudolph, who also belongs to a Prince cover group called Princess.
And at the end of the movie they close the movie out with the princess rendition of, I would die for you. And it was hilarious. I actually had the opportunity to see Princess perform in New York City, maybe like I went let's say like six years ago, and the group is really really good. And it helps that you can see the passion that both Maya, and the woman that sings with her. They have a really big passion for wine, they have a big passion for Prince, and so I just felt like it would be so awesome just to share that information with these, you could put that in your glass and sip it.
I'm feeling the 2018 Ultreia Saint Jacques. And, if you can get over the wet rock on the nose, you know, some minor details. Anywho, I hope that you learned a little bit tonight about this beautiful Mencia grape from the Bierzo region of Spain, and you had a little treat, learning some Prince knowledge. If you found any value in tonight's episode, please like, share, tell a friend, tell a friend, hit me up on the interwebs at Instagram at mowineforu, Facebook at mowineforu, and Twitter at mowineforu. Oh, also, I almost forgot to tell you,
I released Wine Barz Volume Two today, and it's out for digital download I'm so excited about this volume. I love writing these limericks because it's gonna help you remember the wines in a fun way, not in a stuffy. You know, stiff suit way.
