Listen Later

The wireless is interrupted by a special bulletin. “Professor Farrell of the Mount Jennings Observatory reports observing several explosions of incandescent gas occurring at regular intervals on the planet Mars. The spectroscope indicates the gas to be hydrogen which is moving towards the earth at enormous velocity”. What is this unexplained phenomena? Most definitely the most famous radio drama ever broadcast and still as gripping today as ever. Author: H.G.Wells Adapted for radio by Howard Koch & John Houseman

Duration: 51:18

Starring: Orson Welles

Broadcast Date: 30th October 1938

--- Notes ---

The after effects of a radio program that unfortunately not everyone realized was just that a radio program.   This broadcast happened during the worlds unrest as they heard; and didn't want to believe what was happening in Europe by the mad man that we know of as Adolf Hitler.    This is the radio broadcast that helped change how radio stations (and later TV stations) aired warnings that programs are just that programs, and that it's not really going on in real life.
