This is a world at war. Temptations are all around. Jesus calls us to pay attention to ourselves. Get in the Scriptures. Gather with God's people. And root yourself deep in the gospel.
Hell is a tough topic and one that we often skirt around. But Jesus speaks unashamedly of it. He knows it is actually part of the good news. It stands for the fact that all evil will be done away with in the end. And it fills out our understanding of what Jesus took for us on the cross.
Eternity hangs on what we do in the present-what we make of God, of Jesus, and how this is reflected in our use of money and possessions. It may feel at times as if God has abandoned us in the here and now, but He is always present, ever-watchful, and will make all right in His time.
The Law of God, when it leads us to the gospel of Christ, as it well should, becomes a way of life flowing out from a new and regenerated heart. Far from being discarded and nullified, the Law of God now in the gospel era is finally fulfilled and even amplified. Such is the very essence of our freedom as the children of God —we finally have hearts to obey and, hence, look like our Father!
All of life is a series of decisions large and small often made out of our own desires and inclinations. How we engage with God on these choices is a reflection of our depth of faith and has huge implications for our life. Trusting God in all things can be more than a platitude - it can be a way of life.
As Christians, we ought to be prioritizing our life in view of the kingdom of God and the great realities of heaven and hell, sin and judgment, grace and redemption, etc. Those ought to be the impending realities of tomorrow that constrain and guide the way we handle ourselves today!
Our identity is simply this: We are beloved children of the Most High God. And our identity is a beacon that points us to the truth that God is the primary actor in our lives, and He works in us to one end alone, which is our conformity to His likeness.
God is the primary actor in our lives. His purpose for us is conformity to his image, and he works in and for us, to this end, no matter where we are at, if we are willing to accept him.
