Last week, we talked about idolatry and that anything, even good things, can become gods in our lives. We often think about idolatry as being limited to the religious sphere of our lives. The prophet Micah shows us in chapter two that our idolatry effects our relationships with other people, not just our relationship with God. I’d love for you to join us as we explore this truth and see how Micah points us to a powerful hope. See you Sunday!
I love the Pixar movie, Wall-E. What’s not to love about an animated dystopian love story? When the movie came out, it was comical to see an entire population of overweight people living their entire lives on screens. Now? Well, that depiction doesn’t seem so far fetched.
We are surrounded by hundreds of ways to distract ourselves from reality, from ancient practice of drinking excessively to the modern habit of staring at our phones. But, it makes sense, right? Reality can be a brutal place. It’s easier to escape it than to make sense of it.
The book of Micah serves up a healthy dose of reality. Micah exposes injustice, corruption, and our own affection for idolatry. It is brutal. Yet, Micah also powerfully points us to a better hope. Instead of escaping through hundreds of distractions, Micah encourages us to trust God and his promises. He says that God’s people will see His goodness, even in times of darkness. I’d love for you to join us as we kick off our new series, Micah: Seeing God’s Goodness in the Darkness.
