Lewis' classic work, Mere Christianity.  In this episode we finish our look at the Preface of the book and what exactly is the H.C.F. that Lewis refers to?  We discuss Lewis' reluctancy to discuss issues which he didn't know about and the objections some had with his use of the word Christian.  Who is a Christian, who isn't, and who is to decide?  Lewis uses the history of the word, "gentlemen" to show how words can spoil over time.  Brandon issues a challenge to the listeners as well about how we interact with those who have differing beliefs than ours, and how we should carry ourselves in discussing those issues.

Book One - Chapter Five: We Have Cause to Be Uneasy - Chapter Five begins addressing the objections by some who were happy to listen to Lewis as long as they felt he was talking about something new, but quick to dismiss him when he brought up the subject of God.  Lewis assured them he wasn't trying to trick them, and up to this point hadn't used the Bible or any church teaching at all.  He had simply used the reality of life around us.  He also discusses the idea of everyone wanting progress, but if we are on the wrong path to get there, contining down the wrong path is only leading us further away from where we want to go.  We discuss these ideas and being so committed to an idea that no amount of evidence will convince you otherwise.

Mere Christianity - Chapter Five: Part One

Join Byron, Brandon and Jared as we continue through Chapter Four of Mere Christianity.  In Part Two we take a look at the final three paragraphs of the chapter, and what can we learn about man given the fact that we are men.  Does the universe just happen to be, or is there a reason for it?  What lies behind the Law of Nature that we have been discussing the last few weeks?  If something exists behind this Law, what is it like?

Join Jared, Byron and Brandon as we discuss C.S. Lewis' classic work, Mere Christianity.  Tonight we are discussing Book One: Chapter Three - The Reality of the Law.  In this chapter, Lewis continues to make his case for the reality of the Law of Human Nature.  That it is a very real law that we can't escape or explain away.  A law that, "must somehow or other be a real thing - a thing that is really there, not made up by ourselves.  Lewis continues to make his case with a few analogies and we discuss which ones we find the most compelling.

Lewis' classic, Mere Christianity.  Tonight we look at another objection Lewis received to his talk on the Law of Human Nature.  Is the Law of Human Nature merely a social convention?  Lewis discussing the difference between social conventions and real truths.  He asks a question of all us, is there such a thing as a "better" morality?  If one morality can be "better" than another, there must be something different than the two moralities in question that measures them.

Join Brandon, Byron and Jared as we discuss Book One - Chapter Two: Some Objections from C.S. Lewis' classic, Mere Christianity.  In this episode we will discuss the objections Lewis received after his initial talk on the Law of Human Nature.  Isn't what Lewis called the Law of Human Nature just the "herd instinct".  Lewis clearly defines what he meant by the Law of Human Nature and how it differs from what he acknowledged as the "herd instinct". Giving analogies as only Lewis could, we discuss those analogies and what parts of them we find helpful in helping others to see this reality of the Law of Human Nature.
