Lewis' classic work, Mere Christianity.  Tonight we are discussing Book One: Chapter Three - The Reality of the Law.  In this chapter, Lewis continues to make his case for the reality of the Law of Human Nature.  That it is a very real law that we can't escape or explain away.  A law that, "must somehow or other be a real thing - a thing that is really there, not made up by ourselves.  Lewis continues to make his case with a few analogies and we discuss which ones we find the most compelling.

Lewis' classic, Mere Christianity.  Tonight we look at another objection Lewis received to his talk on the Law of Human Nature.  Is the Law of Human Nature merely a social convention?  Lewis discussing the difference between social conventions and real truths.  He asks a question of all us, is there such a thing as a "better" morality?  If one morality can be "better" than another, there must be something different than the two moralities in question that measures them.

Lewis' classic, Mere Christianity.  In this episode we will discuss the objections Lewis received after his initial talk on the Law of Human Nature.  Isn't what Lewis called the Law of Human Nature just the "herd instinct".  Lewis clearly defines what he meant by the Law of Human Nature and how it differs from what he acknowledged as the "herd instinct". Giving analogies as only Lewis could, we discuss those analogies and what parts of them we find helpful in helping others to see this reality of the Law of Human Nature.

Lewis' Mere Christianity.  Finishing up Chapter One, we look at Lewis' second major point concerning the the Law of Human Nature, which is to say that all of us have failed to keep this law, or as Lewis' puts it, "we have failed to practise ourselves the kind of behavior we expect from other people."  What does this say about ourselves, and if there is no real "right" or "wrong", why do we feel the need to make excuses when we break this Law of Human Nature?

Lewis' classic work, Mere Christianity.  In this episode we finish our look at the Preface of the book and what exactly is the H.C.F. that Lewis refers to?  We discuss Lewis' reluctancy to discuss issues which he didn't know about and the objections some had with his use of the word Christian.  Who is a Christian, who isn't, and who is to decide?  Lewis uses the history of the word, "gentlemen" to show how words can spoil over time.  Brandon issues a challenge to the listeners as well about how we interact with those who have differing beliefs than ours, and how we should carry ourselves in discussing those issues.

Lewis' classic work, Mere Christianity.  Our hope is to offer our thoughts going through the entire book over the next several months.  Tonight we discuss the first half the preface to the book in which Lewis offers an explanation for why he wrote the book, and his attempt to, "expound 'mere' Christianity, which is what it is and what it was long before I was born and whether I like it or not."  We discuss the humility that Lewis wrote with in his honest attempt to "explain and defend the belief that has been common to nearly all Christians at all times.".

With the GOP debate all over everyone's "Social Media" feeds this week; Jared and Brandon take a look at the role Christians should be playing when it comes to politics.  Social Media is full of "memes" and quotes claiming that what America needs is a Christian in the White House and all of the problems would fix themselves.  We'll also discuss why it sometimes seems that Christians are more "patriotic" than they are Christian.

How would you rate yourself as a listener in conversations about faith? Often times Christians can be arrogant and lack compassion when engaging others in apologetic conversations. However, 1 Peter 3:15 tells us to defend our faith with "gentleness and respect," and in our hearts "to honor Christ the Lord as holy." Tonight, Brandon and Jared talk about how and why Christians should approach these conversations with humility and kindess.
