Ruben Nizard is Coface Economist for North America, based in Toronto, Ontario (Canada) since January 2020. He is also Head of Political and Social Risk Analysis for the Economic Research Department. Ruben originally joined Coface and the Department in 2016, where he was responsible for Coface's Country Risk Analysis for Africa for three years, based in Bois-Colombe, France. Ruben holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences and Humanities, as well as a Master's degree in Economics and Business from Sciences Po Paris. During his studies, he also studied business and economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA).

Our conversation addresses the nexus between climate change and credit risk. Whatever you believe about global warming, physical risks and transition risks of climate change are going to profoundly affect corporations, financial institutions, investor portfolios, and the economy at large.

In the past, credit analysts have mostly focused on how climate change influences entire industries, with an emphasis on carbon producing and emitting sectors. New analytical tools—including S&P Global’s Climate Credit Analytics—enable us to develop more granular data about individual companies’ drivers and behavior with respect to climate change and a better understanding of how these factors impact their creditworthiness.
