The doldrums are an area of the sea near the equator that are famed for their lack of wind ... sailing ships might stagnate for days or weeks in the doldrums. Spiritually, we may also stray into these waters. This is an area of Spiritual Warfare that we should be aware of and address as soon as it happens.
