Psalm 18 is a thanksgiving psalm for deliverance in response to Psalm 17's cry for help. Near the end of his life, as recorded in 2 Sam 22 and then in Ps 18, David looks back and praises God as his Rock & Deliverer for all His deliverances and interventions during a lifetime of dangerous years, and as his kindgom was established. In this second half of Psalm 18 it is increasingly revealed as a Messianic Psalm of the establishment of eternal kingdom of David's Greater Son. Which also causes us to see the Messiah in His humanity depending on the Father for deliverance from all His and our enemies to the salvation of His people. God's restoration of Israel reveals His faithfulness and prepares the way for the promised Messiah. Because God always keeps His promises, we must trust Him in the waiting and keep looking for the King.

Working through the close of John chapter one, the preacher shows how each man who met Christ immediately went after someone dear to him — Andrew fetching his brother, Philip fetching Nathanael. He argues that a true believer carries a natural burden to see family, neighbors and countrymen saved, supporting it from Romans 9 and 1 John 4, and warns that a heart with no such longing is a hardened heart. He presses the point that no training, schooling or theological polish is required to witness; these first followers were tradesmen who got details wrong and were still used mightily, because their qualification was humility and recognizing who Jesus is. The message closes on Christ's promise of greater things — the ladder between earth and heaven of Genesis 28 fulfilled in the Son of man, who opened the only way to God.

The sermon establishes that despite various historical constructions, there is only one temple located on Mount Moriah. It traces three specific appearances of Christ at this site: first as the pre-incarnate Angel of the Lord with Abraham and Isaac, second with David to stop the plague, and third as the incarnate Messiah who fulfills the prophecy of bringing glory to the rebuilt temple. The preacher argues that the latter glory of the temple is greater than Solomon's because Christ himself indwells it, rather than a physical cloud. This fulfillment brings true peace through the cross, shifting focus from the building to the person of Jesus. The message concludes with an invitation for listeners to receive this peace through faith in Christ.

Pastor McKinnon examines the transformative encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well, illustrating how divine initiative leads to true salvation. While religious knowledge or moral standing cannot save, only the grace of God who seeks out sinners can bring about genuine faith.

The sermon examines Matthew 27:34, focusing on the sour wine mingled with gall offered to Jesus before his crucifixion. The preacher argues that this drink was an act of cruelty and mockery by Roman soldiers rather than an act of compassion or anesthesia. The bitter wine was yet another aspect of the suffering of the Messiah. The message concludes with a call to repentance and gratitude for Christ's endurance of divine wrath on behalf of His people.
