  • Darkness & Light - Part 1
This teaching begins a new series of teachings on the subject of darkness and light. From Genesis to Revelation the Bible has much to say and teach us about these two things that we humans experience in our physical world. While darkness and light are two separate entities, they are dependent on each other. Scientists have studied darkness and light extensively, not only on this earth, but also beyond into the universe. They have measured the speed of light at 186,000 miles-per-hour. The brightness of light can be calculated in units called lux or to use the precise scientific terminology, illuminance.

In this teaching, Rabbi Steve Berkson lays the foundation for the rest of this series in the meanings of darkness and light that goes beyond the physical and into the spiritual aspects of which the scriptures present for our knowledge and understanding, so that the Light will shine in our lives!

  • Afterburn: Thoughts, Q&A on Honor & Shame - Part 8
Some of the topics covered are:
    • If you are looking to be moved up (in authority), maybe you are not ready to be moved up
    • Should “public correction” only be done by the leadership?
    • Meekness should not be confused with weakness
    • What’s with all these “leadership positions”, aren’t we all disciples of Messiah?
    • Is it the “job” of everyone to go out and “share the Gospel”?

    … and much more!

Afterburn: also known in the world of fitness as the “afterburn effect”, simply put; The more intense the exercise, the more oxygen your body consumes afterward.

The same could be true as you build up your spiritual self. After an intense teaching session, you need answers as more thoughts and questions consume you in your spiritual growth.

Rabbi Steve Berkson, director of MTOI, provides an opportunity for the Afterburn to take place by additional thoughts and insight about what he just taught as well as answering questions from the local congregation and those watching the live stream.

  • Honor & Shame - Part 8
In Luke 14:1-14 we see Yeshua teaching about honor and shame using the example of the seating arrangement at a wedding feast, making the point about how shameful self-exaltation can be and how honorable it is to have genuine humility. As He was teaching He used a phrase, “resurrection of the righteous”–what does this mean?

How are your vertical and horizontal relationships? Do you understand your place and role? Do you understand that if you have a place of authority over others that you also have an authority over you? Do you conduct yourself accordingly with honor? Are you showing the same kindness and patience to others that was shown to you?

Do you have a “limited definition” of evil? How is evil defined in scripture?

When is public correction of someone appropriate? By whom? What was Paul’s instruction to Timothy his student?

What does the phrase, under the yoke, refer to?

To whom is due “double respect/honor”?

Bringing this teaching to its conclusion, Rabbi Steve Berkson’s desire is for you to understand that as you conduct yourself in ways that bring bring honor to Messiah and the Father, honor/respect/esteem will come back to you from them and from those around you.

  • Honor & Shame - Part 7
There are events in your life that reflect whether or not you bring honor or shame to Messiah and the Father.

In Luke 9:23 we hear Yeshua Messiah lay out the requirements for being a follower of Him.
What does it mean to take up your stake daily? How does that bring honor?

Have you been called into this walk to be miserable? Do you feel trapped in a cycle of guilt caused from your perception of “not ever getting it right”? You can break out of that cycle through using a gift that has been given you by the Father–what is that gift?

“Yahweh is not so concerned with what you did wrong, rather, He wants to see what you do next–do you acknowledge the wrong and repent, or do you act like “oh well, no big deal”? The honorable way is to own the mistake, use the gift of repentance and move forward.”

Are there things or people in your life that are toxic to your walk? How do you deal with them honorably?

Rabbi Berkson breaks down Matt 19:16-30: Why was eternal life asked about and not “salvation”? Why did Yeshua say “If you wish to be ‘perfect’”? What does ‘perfect’ mean in this interaction? Rabbi Berkson connects a few scripture dots to clarify the meaning of ‘perfect’. Was Yeshua speaking only of this man’s material possessions?
