  • #13 - Chandrayaan 3

    Chandrayaan 3 ദൗത്യം പറ്റി അധികം കവർ ചെയ്യുന്നില്ല. Space politics പിന്നെ gravity പറ്റി കുറച്ചു സംസാരിക്കും.

    No much talk about Chandrayaan 3 mission. It's just about space politics and the discovery of gravity.

  • #10 - Shoreline receded...but we don't know what happened? 🤷

    Shoreline recedes in Kozhikode beach.

    Note: These links may become obsolete depending on when you access this episode.

    Manorama article link: https://www.onmanorama.com/news/kerala/2022/10/30/sea-recedes-kozhikode-kothi-beach.html

    Asianet News Clip of incident: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E916OFxSNKU

    Youtube animation which shows the center of attraction of Sun/Moon: https://youtu.be/HpXGt2vR1gw

    Theories:

    (1) Certain storm or typhoon occurrences that is far from the shores can cause a tidal phenomenon

    (2) Plate tectonics - combined with other natural phenomena like ground water regimes, or, natural gas migrations leading to a small rise in the land mass, or, a dip in the sea floor.

    Extra: Check out tidal boring - especially in China’s Qiantang river - which happens due to a tidal occurrence, but not sure which one.

    Updates since the date of incident:

    9th Nov 2022: Similar occurrence of shoreline recession in Papanasham beach at Varkala. There were similar unconfirmed reports in other beaches too earlier.

    Two earthquakes in Nepal/Delhi. Most recently on 12th Nov 2022.

    Randall Munroe is the actual topic. This topic is a two episode series. This is the first episode.
    Question: If all of Google's dataceters digital information was stored on punch cards...how high would the datawarehouse be?
    This is an interesting question Randall Munroe investigated and published on his website. You can read about it here: https://what-if.xkcd.com/63/
    Also you can find many videos on youtube which are talks by the man himself.

  • #8 - A Visceral Light

    I journeyed here not;

    But hither I've come,
    Seeking what most Men naught.
    - A modicum

    In the Annals of Naught,

    I persevere to find,
    A tomb history forgot;
    And the interred one,
    In equal measure, not often thought.

    Yet His inventions we’ve often used;

    A memoir unawaringly abused,
    That we’ve failed to Self-remind
    The toll of War is visceral blind.

    Where be this tomb, stony and sun-scorched

    That centuries of weather had reigned
    And its significance, botched?
    Where must one offer a knee,
    Or a prayer devout;
    Or even a tear, misty?

    When should one arise,

    When must one, return;
    And, set fire the Torch of visceral light,
    That humanity can, at once, discern.

  • #4 Positivism in lending a hand...

    Is it a good idea to lend a hand to someone to uplift him or her? Consider the two stories in this episode.

    Its a bit long; advice you to listen in 1.5x. Really want to redo this episode and make it smaller, but this has been dragging for a while. Not equipped to optimize how I record episodes these days. But I would love to hear your thoughts.
