Meta & YouTube liable for social media addiction

A jury in Los Angeles ruled thatMeta (owner of Instagram and Facebook) and Google (owner of YouTube) were found guilty of negligence in the design of their platforms, leading to addiction and mental health problems in children. This landmark ruling was handed down on March 25, 2026.

- Distribution of Liability : Meta is said to bear 70% of the responsibility for the loss, while Google/YouTube is responsible for the remaining 30% .
