By Chelle and Jesse
The podcast currently has 31 episodes available.
In a call back to Season 1, Chelle's selection this week comes from an artist that has been blowing up as of late. From her recently released record "Planet Her", say hello to Doja Cat's "Get Into It (Yuh)". Then Jesse takes the reigns to bring you selection from Oakland sludge icons High On Fire. From their 2007 record "Death Is This Communion", get ready for the groovy riffing of the song "Turk". Also in this episode, Jesse and Chelle discuss minimalistic approaches to music, and whether or not Chelle's jokes are better than Jesse's.
In this week's episode, we hear a selection from Jesse from a band that is very near and dear to him. Enjoy the track Diamond Eyes from the Deftones from their 2010 album of the same name. Then Chelle gives Jesse a taste of the musical stylings of Hayley Williams - whom some of you may know from alt-rock powerhouse Paramore. The song is Simmer from her 2020 record Petals For Armor. Also discussed in this episode, Nu Metal, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and how the music industry has changed in just the past 10 years
This week Chelle shares a song by up and coming artist Josie Dunne. Enjoy "Good Boys" off of her 2018 album To Be The Little Fish. Then Jesse shares a new track from progressive metal titans Between The Buried And Me. Get ready for "The Future Is Behind Us" from the 2021 album Colors II.
AND as a BONUS this week...
In light of the sudden and tragic passing of multi-platinum recording artist Meat Loaf, our hosts wanted to take a few minutes to share the impact that Meat Loaf had on their lives, the influence he had on both the metal and pop genres, and the legacy he left as a musician, performer, and actor. Of course the tribute wouldn't be complete without sharing one of his most iconic songs; enjoy "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" - single edit (for time purposes).
AND... One more quick note, normally this episode would be a Hate Episode, however, due to audio issues we had to scrap the entire episode we had recorded and do the next one we had recorded. We hope to eventually get back on track with doing them every 5th episode.
In this weeks episode, Jesse shares the dulcet musical stylings of Tribulation and their song Melancholia. Chelle's selection comes from singer-songwriter Regina Spektor, with her song Fidelity. Along the way they discuss operatic singing episodes, knock off Ovaltine brands, and Chelle's unlikely connection to the band Iwrestledabearonce.
This week Chelle is sharing the musical stylings of an artist that isn't as well known, even among pop circles; their song this week is Shame by Jimmy Charles Moody. Jesse meanwhile goes with a band that has become very mainstream, but shares a song from an era that many who know the band today might not be familiar with; from Gothenburg Sweden, this is Embody The Invisible by In Flames. Let's get into it!
It's throwback Metalpopalypse Monday! Despite Chelle's claim that all of Jesse's songs are throwbacks, he hasn't REALLY played anything representative of early heavy metal. Though some would argue they are more rooted in the genre of Classic Rock, Deep Purple had a HUGE influence on heavy metal and, in some parts of the world, they are considered more influential than even Black Sabbath. Jesse's gonna take you 'Space Truckin'! Then we go even further back to the 60's where Chelle takes us to the world of Hollywood musicals. One such musical very close to Chelle's heart is Funny Girl, starring Barbara Streisand and Omar Sharif. Chelle shares with us the title track from the same soundtrack, sung in the dulcet tones of icon Barbara Streisand. Sit back and let the music take you away. It's a musical blast from the past!
This is our 5th Episode of our 2nd Season, which means...
IT'S TIME FOR ANOTHER HATE EPISODE HATERS!!! Buckle up everyone
Hello again from MetalPopalypseLand! Chelle and Jesse are yet again ready to take you on another musical journey. The first part of this journey takes us to dark forests of Norway where we will hill the cold chilling riffs and blast beats of the Sons of Northern Darkness themselves; IMMORTAL! Get ready for One By One! This tune is one of Jesse’s favorite album openers of all time… will Chelle love it as much as he does? Then we go a little closer to home and hear the emotional piano ballad of Kesha titled prayers. Stuff gets heavy as Chelle and Jesse discuss the story behind this song and it’s implications in her career and throughout the music industry as a whole.
WARNING: This episode contains material that could be triggering to some of our listeners; including discussions about sexual harassment, sexual assault, predatory behavior, suicidal ideations, and emotional abuse. Please do not listen to the second half (after the commercial break) if you feel that any of these topics could be triggering or harmful to you emotionally.
Jesse and Chelle have had enough of the other's shenanigins. This episode is jam packed with insults, subtle jabs, and (surpisingly) some insightful commentary. Join them as Chelle shares a tune by Kim Petras entitled I Don't Want It At All; a sugary bubble-gum pop song about a girl who just wants someone to buy her all the things. Jesse goes in a complete 180 and shares a tune from the crazed drug-addled mind of Al Jourgenson with Ministry's Thieves. It's a crazy nightmare-fueled romp through noisy industrial soundscapes that will leave you thoroughly amped up and ready to break some shit.
Metalpopalypse goes to the movies! Sort of. For this episode Chelle and Jesse share music videos with each other. Get ready for some controversy (cuz we need a little) y'all. Jesse shares Rammstein's epic video for Deutschland and Chelle FINALLY gets to share Lil Nas X's groundbreaking video for Montero (Call Me By Your Name). Check out the music videos below and also an analysis video that Jesse referenced in the show.
