Hoy en día se habla mucho de las cuotas de representación en los medios y del impacto que estas tienen en el público, pero la idea no es nueva. Star Trek es una franquicia que ha sido pionera en muchas cuestiones, siendo la representación una de ellas, con hitos como el primer beso interracial en televisión en tiempos de segregación. Gene Roddenberry, creador de la serie original, tenía un objetivo claro: mostrar una utopía futurista donde los prejuicios raciales y el sexismo ya no existen.
Charla ofrecida en mayo del 2016 (antes del estreno de Beyond y Discovery) dentro de la programación de actividades de celebración del 50º aniversario de Star Trek para el Club Star Trek de España en la Librería Gigamesh (Barcelona).
