  • Episode 2: Toby Claudio on mastering peak productivity, the link between a sound mind and a healthy body, and the keys to leading the Philippine's biggest sports retail chain

Toby Claudio (Twitter: @tobyclaudio / Instagram: @tobyclaudio) is a Filipino athlete and businessman best known as the President of Toby's Sports, the leading sports retail brand in The Philippines. He is also the founder of Runnr, a Philippines-based running specialty store, as well as urbanAthletics, a store that focuses on the most wanted sneakers from popular brands such as Nike, Adidas, Puma and New Balance to name a few.

Aside from leading his retail ventures through their umbrella company Quora Group (of which he is also the President), he is also a former President of the Manila chapter of Junior Chamber International (JCI), a non-profit non-government international organization comprised of individuals between the ages of 18-40 that operates in over 100 countries worldwide and is engaged in various activities designed to create positive change in their respective chapters' communities.

In this episode, we cover a lot of ground as I attempt to find out what contributes to Toby's reputation as a leader and entrepreneur. These include:

    - The various projects he spearheaded during his term as President of JCI Manila, including The Field of Dreams - a baseball field situated in a local community known as Smokey Mountain, so-called because the community resides on a literal mountain of garbage - and Rock and Run 2010, a fun run and rock concert for a cause.
    - The impact of David Allen's book "Getting Things Done" on his life which he regularly shares with employees, colleagues and students.
    - The unorthodox way that he founded his running specialty store Runnr.
    - The influence of his family, particularly Bobby, his father and the founder of Toby's Sports, in molding his passion for sports and business.
    - A slew of fitness hacks for people who are unable to go to their local gyms due to the pandemic (including his recent affinity for the app Zwift, which allows him to go on virtual runs and bicycle rides with friends). Toby also discusses the importance of regular exercise and how it contributes to a sounder mind, more productivity and more effectiveness.
