On this episode I talk about what it means to start a business and what we should truly focus on. There are many reasons and desires people have when they want to start a business and sometimes we overlok some of the obvious ones. Some folks desire to start a business focused primarily on money, when this alone is not the answer and can always lead to disappointments.

Sometimes there are perceptions about starting a business like the belief that being your own boss makes it easier or that there is much more control. The truth is that most of the time, starting a business is much more work than the average 9 to 5. Starting a business should be based primarily on a desire to do something one really loves and enjoys. There should be a pure desire behind that decision to start a business.

Then there is planning: lots of planning. Many businesses fail because of a lack of planning. There is also the lack of having goals, objectives and visions. These are common with large organizations and many people think that small businesses do not necessarily need to have these in place. But when goals, objectives and visions for a business are established early on, it provides direction and guidance to success.
