Dr. Magda Novelli Pearson is the Italian Program coordinator at FIU. She is in charge of two Study Abroad Programs in Italy. She is the Advisor of the Italian club and FIU University Instructor. In charge of CELI exams in cooperation with the University of Perugia (Italy). Her interests are in COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) projects. She already coiled several courses at FIU in partner with the University of Perugia (Italy)." Magda is a board member of local Italian non-profit organization: ODLI that promotes Italian Language and Culture in K-12 schools and is sponsored by the Italian Government. Among other things, ODLI organizes events for the Italian Heritage Month that takes place every year in October in Miami Dade County.
ODLI Organization of the Development of the Italian Language and Culture (Organization for the Development of Italian Studies) is a State of Florida non-profit organization 501(c)(3), which operates under the official auspices of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. ODLI’s mission is to promote Italy’s language and culture for Florida’s students grade K-12 and adults. Together with the Consulate General of Italy in Miami, ODLI has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Miami Dade County Public Schools, Broward County Public Schools, Collier County Public Schools, Hillsborough County Public Schools and an Agreement with Palm Beach County Public Schools. In 2005 the Florida Department of Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Consulate General of Italy in Miami and ODL.
Mr. Pastor is the Executive Director of Societa' Dante Alighieri Miami. He provides general oversight of day-to-day upper operations of one of the premier cultural institutions in the city of Coral Gables in Miami Dade County, Florida.
The Societa' Dante Alighieri in Miami is part of the Societa' Dante Alighieri, founded in 1889 and headquartered in Rome, Italy. It is the oldest and most prestigious institution for the tutelage and promotion of the Italian language and culture. In 2005 the Societa' Dante Alighieri Miami was recognized with the prestigious Principe De Asturias Award for culture. Through the personal efforts of Mr. Pastor Societa' Dante Alighieri Miami has fostered and develop deep ties and collaboration with the Consul General of Italy, France, Germany, and Brazil in Miami. During the last decade, the Societa' Dante Alighieri Miami and Mr. Pastor personally have been instrumental in the establishment of branches of Societa in Puerto Rico, Panama, Atlanta Charleston, Grenada, and Spain, Mr. Pastor's understanding and involvement in the community allows him to forge long-standing relationships and innovative programs. In recognition of his efforts in 2009, Mr. Pastor was granted the title of Cavalleri (OMRI), the highest honor bestowed by the president of the Republic of Italy. Mr. Pastor has also been named the Consul General of Italy in Puerto Rico.
