Micah Collier’s journey as a bassist and composer is uncovered in his debut album, ‘Becoming,’ released September 15. Born into a musical family, Collier’s roots run deep in Chicago where jazz is the heart of the city. His career as a musician started at 16, inspired by the jazz community surrounding him. Collier’s album encompasses his artistic evolution, and challenges conventional jazz norms through his embrace of non-traditional elements.

In conversation with Vocalo’s Ayana Contreras, Collier shares how he is moved by his passion for groove and hopes to redefine the sound of jazz in a city known for its rich musical heritage.
