Lansing, Mich. (June 6, 2025) — Yesterday, IONETIX, a leader in advanced radiopharmaceutical technologies, is investing $25.75 million to expand its Delta Township facility. The project will add a second cyclotron, and an advanced isotope processing laboratory. The expansion is expected to create 53 high-tech jobs and further accelerate innovation in life sciences and nuclear medicine manufacturing.

“IONETIX’s expansion is creating high-skill, high-value jobs and elevating the Lansing Region within the global medical technology landscape,” said Bob Trezise, president and CEO of the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP). “LEAP is proud to support this project and the ecosystem of innovative MedTech companies making our region a destination for biomedical research and economic opportunity.”

IONETIX marked the milestone with a community event at its Delta Township facility, bringing together company leaders, regional partners, and officials from across the state. Speakers included representatives from IONETIX, LEAP, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), and Delta Township.

Founded in 2009 from technology developed at the MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center, IONETIX has pioneered the world’s first commercial compact superconducting cyclotron, the ION-12SC, which is used to produce N-13 ammonia, one of the most accurate positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agents for detecting coronary artery disease (CAD). The company has also expanded its focus to targeted alpha therapy (TAT), an emerging cancer treatment utilizing high-energy alpha particles to target cancer cells while preserving healthy tissue.

The State of Michigan, through the Michigan Business Development Program, awarded IONETIX $750,000 in incentives to support this expansion, ensuring a strong pipeline of skilled talent and continued innovation in the region.

Lansing Economic Club Host Panel with Coaches Michael Garland and Tom Izzo

June 5 Event Features Powerful Conversation on Leadership, Survival, and Lifesaving Purpose

LANSING, Mich. — The Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce was proud to host a powerful panel discussion at the 2024-25 season finale of the June Lansing Economic Club, featuring former MSU Assistant Coach and Champions of the Heart founder Michael Garland and Michigan State University Men’s Basketball Head Coach Tom Izzo.

The event took place on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center and was moderated by Ann Emmerich, Anchor at WILX News 10.

This impactful conversation explored themes of leadership, adversity, and purpose. Garland shared his life-altering experience of surviving cardiac arrest in 2022, thanks to two brave passersby who administered CPR and helped save his life. That moment inspired him to launch Champions of the Heart, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding hands-only CPR training, access to CPR manikins, and AEDs throughout communities.

Coach Tom Izzo joined the discussion to reflect on Garland’s journey, their shared legacy at MSU, and the principles behind the Spartan training philosophy—a discipline explored in Garland’s new book, AGOGE. Together, the coaches offered insights on high performance, resilience, and what it truly means to lead with heart.

“This panel embodied what the Lansing Economic Club is all about—bringing people together to share stories that motivate and spark impact,” said Tim Daman, President & CEO of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce. “We were honored to host Champions of the Heart Founder Mike Garland and MSU Men’s Basketball Coach Tom Izzo for what proved to be an emotional and unforgettable program.”

In celebration of Coach Tom Izzo breaking the Big Ten Conference win record, Michigan State’s Big Ten Regular Season Title and March Madness, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled an officially licensed, limited-edition Coach Izzo Win Counter Bobblehead.

The interactive bobblehead that includes two win counters that fans can use to track Coach Izzo’s total wins and conference wins features Coach Izzo, who has led the Spartans for 30 years and recently became the all-time winningest coach in Big Ten Conference history.

On Thursday night, Michigan State won the Big Ten regular season title by defeating the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Spartans are currently ranked #8 in the AP Top 25 and #7 in the Coaches Poll ahead of the regular season finale against Michigan on Sunday before the Big Ten Tournament and NCAA Tournament begin. The special edition bobblehead is being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of Michigan State University.

The bobbleheads, which are expected to ship in August, are now available at this link.

Each bobblehead will be individually numbered to only 2,025.

The bobbleheads are $40 each plus an $8 flat-rate shipping charge per order. Coach Izzo will be donating his portion of the proceeds to scholarships for his student managers.

Standing on a block court-like base, the Tom Izzo Win Counter Bobblehead has his fist raised triumphantly in the air while holding a basketball adorned with the MSU logo. The front of the block base reads ‘COACH IZZO” and has a win counter that can be adjusted with each victory by the Spartans while the back of the base has a counter that tracks conference wins.

On Saturday, February 15th, Izzo broke former Indiana coach Bob Knight’s record with the Spartans’ 79-65 victory over Illinois at the State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois. The win was the 354th Big Ten Conference victory for Izzo, passing Knight for the most conference wins in league history. “I just want to be thankful for the 148 players I coached,” Izzo said after the game.

“Each one of them got a win, and those wins helped me. The presidents, the Ads, my assistant coaches. And over six million fans that watched this over those 354 wins, so that’s who I want to thank.” With that victory, Izzo upped his career record to 727-300. He trails only seven other active coaches in the sport on the all-time wins list.

A native of Iron Mountain, Michigan, the 70-year-old Izzo took over for Jud Heathcote in 1995 after 11 years as an assistant coach. He led the Spartans to their second national title in 2000 with an 89-76 victory over Florida. The Spartans also finished as the national runner-up in 2009.

The World’s Largest Artificial Ski Jump

As you’ve probably guessed from the title, Copper Peak is the world’s largest artificial ski jump. While it hasn’t been operating in that capacity since 1994, we’re on the way to restoring the jump to its previous glory.

In the meantime, visitors love stopping by Copper Peak to go on our Adventure Ride or explore our Mountain Biking Trails. And who can blame them? The Copper Peak upper observation platform provides views at 1,782 feet above sea level and 1,180 feet above Lake Superior, and the trails feature a 600-foot elevation gain over 5.5 miles. Now that’s not for the faint of heart!

About the Jump

The Copper Peak ski jump is made from 300 tons of sturdy COR-TEN steel and boasts a 469-foot cantilevered in run with a 35-degree slope. It’s built to withstand even the strongest winds, including speeds of over 190 mph. During windy weather, you may observe a gentle 18-inch sway at the top, but rest assured, there’s no cause for concern! The jump sways intentionally as part of its design.

A Vision for the Next Two Years

Our mission is to redefine Copper Peak as the premier ski jump worldwide, hosting year-round competitions highlighting the breathtaking beauty of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and the surrounding region. Our vision is to position the Upper Peninsula as a globally renowned destination for outdoor enthusiasts, inspiring a passion for the area as a distinctive place to live, work, and play while also fostering business growth in the region.

How They Plan To Reach This New Adventure

Over the past few years, Copper Peak’s Adventure Ride has experienced significant growth. Investments have been made in preliminary engineering, geo-tech studies, structural reviews, master planning exercises, and business case development to redevelop the hill to host international competitions.

The Copper Peak Organizing Committee, appointed by the full board in 2015, has dedicated considerable time and resources to foster relationships with esteemed organizations such as the International Ski Federation (FIS), the United States Ski Association (USSA), USA Ski Jumping and USA Nordic Combined, as well as influential Michigan legislators and decision-makers. The ultimate objective has been to pave the way for the successful reintroduction of international ski jumping events at Copper Peak.

On March 30, 2022, Copper Peak was granted a generous $20 million from the State of Michigan to bring this vision to life. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all those who played a role in this important investment by the state.

A $20 million project for Copper Peak began on Friday with a ceremony.

After a resounding boom, the Copper Peak project now begins. The goal of this project is to bring the ski hill to International Ski and Snowboard Federation standards. President of Copper Peak Bob Jacquart said this first phase is focusing on the landing hill.

Jacquart says; “We’re going to redo the landing hill right now and get it, widen it, change the angle, and eventually pour a concrete slab so that we can have ski jumping in the summer,”
