Jeffrey Mosher discusses an art exhibit coming to East Lansing March and April of 2018 with Elaine Hardy Coordinator of the East Lansing Hannah Community Center.
1. The MLK art exhibit is presented by the Greater Lansing Area
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission and
commemorates the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination.
2. Artwork and artifacts will represent Dr. King’s life from the
1957 founding of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference,
for which Dr. King was the first elected president, to his
assassination April 4, 1968, and funeral April 9.
Included will be three autograph prints from John Lewis, a
U.S. representative for Georgia and a leader in the civil rights
movement.
3. The exhibit also includes some historical information about
the Greater Lansing Area Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday
Commission, the longest-existing MLK Day commission in the
nation working to make all voices heard.
4. The art exhibit is March 4-April 30 at the East Lansing Hannah
Community Center, 819 Abbot Road, East Lansing, MI 48823.
It is free and open to the public.
Sunday, March 4, 1-6 p.m. – An opening reception with
refreshments begins at 1 p.m. with a short program at 1:30 p.m.;
free and open to the public.
Remaining schedule – M-F 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturdays 8 a.m.
to 6 p.m.; Sundays noon to 6 p.m.
5. About the Commission: It is a non-profit, appointed-body
comprised of volunteer representatives dedicated to
preserving the legacy and teachings of Dr. King, supporting
community agencies, and empowering youth to achieve
educational goals.
The Commission’s focus is on the area’s pressing needs
of literacy, youth violence, hunger, mentoring, education
and community enrichment.
