Microsoft is reportedly working on a new AI language model called MAI-1, which aims to compete with models developed by Google and OpenAI. The model is being overseen by Mustafa Suleyman, former co-founder of Google DeepMind and CEO of AI startup Inflection, who recently joined Microsoft. Although the exact purpose of MAI-1 is yet to be determined, it is expected to be larger and more expensive to train than previous Microsoft models. Microsoft may provide a preview of MAI-1 at its upcoming Build developer conference. With this move, Microsoft seeks to strengthen its position in the AI industry and attract a wider client base.
