Mid by Midwest is back from the holidays, which means we need to clean up the mess that the government made just before Christmas. We discuss the ongoing government shutdown and all the advice that congress won't follow about how to fix it. The second mess, being Syria, ends up being much easier for resident military strategist Jeff. The rest of the podcast is about can openers.

It's almost Christmas, so we're generously showering our listeners with tons of news stories. And not a single word about politics! So you'll have plenty of fun and non-contentious conversation starters with your family members.

This week on the Mid by Midwest Podcast the Jeff and Tom discuss distortions in democracy throughout the western world. Riots in France during the yellow vest protests, Britain postpones a vote on a Brexit deal, and Wisconsin republicans make moves during the lame duck session.

This week Tom is gone, so Jeff and Chris are the only ones left to pick up the pieces after a giant deluge of Mueller investigation news. So instead of doing so, Chris word-vomits out of anxious nausea while Jeff holds his hair. Thankfully we have an India-themed round up to stick the landing. Also Jeff repeatedly mispronounces Mueller for no apparent reason.

This week the Mid by Midwest crew discusses the boogeyman of the midterms coming out from under the bed as the migrant caravan arrives in Tijuana. Tear gas and PR damage control ensued. Then we cover existentially terrifying news out of China as they announce the successful genetic engineering of babies. Though it does give Jeff an opportunity to show us his anime chops.

This week Mid by Midwest conveniently ignores the midterm elections to instead focus on a series of stupid slap fighting, first between the White House and CNN's Jim Acosta over a brief bout of rudeness. And second between every major metropolitan hub in America as they competed to bribe the world's largest retailer to locate their newest headquarters in their own city. Now New York is betting multiple billions of dollars on that horse.

This week we ignore the fact that the 2018 midterm elections are the day after recording with a consideration of one of Trump's more ludicrous pre-election plays to his base. Should the president be able to revoke birthright citizenship by fiat? Almost certainly no. Should we not have birthright citizenship anymore? Maybe?

This week we have the gang together again to give you a preamble for the midterms and how much of a shot the Democrats have at winning both the House and the Senate. We also get to talk about the attempted terrorism of a crazed Trump supporter sending ineffectual pipe bombs to everyone who ever had harsh words for our president, not excluding popular film actors.

This week on the Mid by Midwest Podcast we have the whole crew back together to talk about some under-the-radar but nonetheless fascinating bits of news laser focused on bringing the most moderate midwestern takes out of us. So get ready to enjoy some refreshing insight from three straight men about civil rights protection for transgender people, and from two white men and one Asian American man about Harvard's secret afirmative action agenda.
