Mid Piece: A TCG Podcast

In Episode 126 of the Mid Piece TCG Podcast, I recap my weekend at the London Regionals, from competing in the main Regional event on day one to taking part in the Extra Grand Battle on day two. I break down my results, matchups and overall experience across both events.

I’m then joined by special guest Ryan, better known as Fancy Munchlax, to discuss his recent competitive run. Ryan reflects on his time at the European Nationals in Utrecht before sharing how he reached the top cut at the London Regional and secured his ticket to the Season 2 Finals in London this January.

Finally, we look at some of the cards revealed for EB-05 before rounding out the episode by answering questions from the community.

This week on Mid Piece, we need to talk about the elephant in the room… Green Mihawk is officially getting banned. With the ban coming into effect on October 12th, I have a long and open conversation about Bandai’s decision, my thoughts on the ban, what it means for the game moving forward, and how it feels to be losing a deck that has become such a huge part of my competitive journey. We then move into my week in the hobby, with some focused playtesting ahead of the Brotherhood Brawl as I continue preparing for the London regionals. Finally, we round out the episode with questions from the community, including a really fun discussion about designing brand new Leader cards for One Piece characters who haven't received one yet. What would their abilities look like, and how could you make them actually reflect their powers and personality from the series? Plenty to unpack this week, some serious discussion, some competitive One Piece, and a little bit of card-design madness to finish us off.

With London Regionals fast approaching, it’s time to step away from the endless Mihawk vs Kaido debate and take a proper look at the rest of the OP17 format.

This week, I’m talking through the decks making waves across the meta, from Nico Robin, Sabo and Xebec to Black Luffy, Purple Enel, Luffy & Ace, Red Ace and more.

I then rambler about mental fortitude and how important it is for big events like regionals and large scale events. Plus, I give an update on my London testing, look ahead to the Brotherhood Brawl, and, as always, we finish with questions from the listeners.

After the madness of Utrecht, this week on Mid Piece things are a little quieter as I take a much needed week away from actually playing the game, but there's still plenty of One Piece TCG to talk about! We start by catching up on the competitive scene and looking at the results from the latest Regional events in Virginia and Athens, including the winning decks and what those results might tell us about where the meta currently stands. From there, we take a broader look at the current format and the five to seven decks I believe make up the top of the meta. Rather than there being one obvious answer, we discuss why each of these decks is genuinely viable, what they bring to the table and why there's plenty of room to find success with the right choice. Then I go on a bit of a ramble about something arguably even more important than choosing the "best deck", actually becoming a better player. We talk about testing properly, finding and building a strong testing group, surrounding yourself with players who will challenge you, and getting the most out of the time you put into the game. Finally, as always, we wrap things up by answering another great selection of questions sent in by the Mid Piece community.

A slightly more chilled one after Utrecht, but plenty of competitive One Piece goodness to get stuck into.

This week on Mid Piece, we're back from Utrecht, and there's a LOT to talk about!

I'm breaking down my entire experience at the European Nationals weekend: the highs, the lows, the good, the bad, and everything that happened across an absolutely packed few days of One Piece TCG.

We go through my run in the Flame-Flame Colosseum, the European National Finals and Sunday's Extra Grand Battle, breaking down the games, the matchups and some of the biggest moments from across the weekend.

25 games of competitive One Piece. Three events. One massive weekend.

After months of testing, preparation and talking about Nationals on the podcast, it's finally time to tell the full story of what happened in Utrecht.

There's plenty to unpack in this one, so sit back and enjoy Episode 132 of Mid Piece!

This week on Mid Piece, we take a deep dive into the current state of Green Mihawk and the problems surrounding what has quickly become a Tier 0 deck in the OP-17 meta. We discuss just how dominant Mihawk has become and look at some of the potential solutions Bandai could explore, including whether paired bans could help bring the format back towards a healthier and more balanced place.

I then recap my week in the hobby, where I took Purple Kaido to locals before continuing my final testing with both Kaido and Mihawk as I try to make that all-important decision ahead of Nationals.

We also dive into a plethora of other topics from around the One Piece TCG before, as always, rounding out the episode by answering questions sent in by the community.

With that, the preparation is done. The next stop is Utrecht for Nationals!

In Episode 130 of the Mid Piece TCG Podcast, I look back at OP-17 pre-release week, including the different events I attended and my experience winning one of them.

I then recap my week in the hobby before exploring some of the new decks and strategies beginning to emerge from the OP-17 format. I discuss the Fish-Man package finding a home in Green Mihawk, the growing use of the Big Mom package across Yellow Enel and Blue/Yellow Boa Hancock, and its most disgusting form yet in Purple/Yellow Nico Robin.

Finally, I round out the episode by answering questions from the community.

In Episode 129 of the Mid Piece TCG Podcast, I take an extensive look at the OP-17 pre-release and everything you need to know before playing in your event. I break down the cards you should look out for in your six packs, which cards are worth including in your deck, which ones you should avoid, and the key fundamentals that can help you succeed in the pre-release format.

I then recap my week in the hobby, where I took Green Mihawk to locals and discuss how the deck performed, before wrapping up the episode by answering questions from the community.

In Episode 128 of the Mid Piece TCG Podcast, I discuss the chaos surrounding registration for the OP-17 pre-release events, from the ongoing problems with the Bandai TCG+ app to the growing number of scalpers entering events purely to get hold of product. I share my frustrations about how this affects genuine players and the wider One Piece Card Game community.

I then recap my week in the hobby, where I took Green Mihawk to locals on both Tuesday and Friday. I break down my games, the different matchups I faced and how the deck performed across both events before rounding out the episode.

This week on Mid Piece, we kick things off by discussing one of the biggest issues currently facing the One Piece TCG community, the growing impact of scalpers. We talk about how difficult it's becoming for players to get hold of sealed product, the effect it's having on the game, and why something needs to change to make products more accessible for the people who actually want to play. We then revisit the Leader Showcase as I share my thoughts after spending time with Yellow Captain Kid, discussing what I learned from the deck and where I think it currently sits in the format. After that, I recap my week in the hobby, where I took both Green Shanks and Purple Kaido proxy lists to locals for testing, sharing my early impressions and how each deck felt ahead of their official release. Finally, as always, we wrap up the episode by answering another fantastic selection of questions sent in by the community.
