We’re back for another episode on yet another season of our podcast, and who thought we would’ve made it this far. In celebration we reflect on our childhood , and the fond memories of some of the greatest films that have shaped our perspective on life. We are parents of a very charismatic young actress in the making, and talk a lot about when is the appropriate time to introduce our child to horror films. A saga that has spanned over 20 years has brought back a lot of feelings with Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later. Steven Sane and Nellie B discuss the stunning performances of the film, while also noting on the trends of successful tropes in horror in relation to politics in American movies. Movies have a way of communicating a message, especially horror. What was 28 Years Later saying? Whatever its message, it has a badass delivery.

We are back with Season 2 of Gumbo! New house, new studio, new opportunities to piss off prudes. And what better way to ring in our new season than with our favorite guest, Melanie Mann, to discuss good old fashioned Christian propaganda films. Melanie grew up in a fundamentalist Christian household headed by Bob Jones and was homeschooled with their proprietary homeschool curriculum and provides an incredible insight into growing up in a fundamentalist household. Unusual Films and Bob Jones University created a series of “educational” movies with Christ-like life lessons, including today’s feature ‘Project Dinosaur’. Do I hear a new series coming??

Project Dinosaur (2000), directed by evangelist director Tim Rogers, follows a mild-mannered group of young kids as they discover a dinosaur bone and embark on a lesson on creationism, faith, and kindness. In classic after-school-special style, the skeptical “public school educated” Mikey is taught about creationism by his fundie home-schooled pals with almost-funny comedic relief throughout the film and, of course, all of the flaws of science. It’s actually surprisingly watchable and available for free on Youtube and directly on Bob Jone’s website. Take a listen to Melanie and Nellie’s takes on this Y2K hidden gem for atheists who love a good laugh.

The ADHD train keeps rolling with episode 32 . We talk about the pain of having to move, life , and of course film. This is our last episode in this home as we are preparing to move. We rewatched the films of Harmony Korine and asked some friends to list their favorite Korine film. The answer was obvious , they chose Gummo. Has anyone seen his films , and what did you think. Welcome back sickos were here for a second attempt at this long awaited episode. After some tech malfunction with our first try, we found some luck with this one. A month or so ago Nellie was contacted via Facebook about an acting role. Needless to say we were a bit nervous about responding at first, but took a chance. Shot entirely on an iPhone with a crew of three people movie magic was made. I would best describe the film as drama/suspense shot in southeast louisiana . What these guys were able to do with an iPhone was pretty incredible I must say. They knew what they wanted and didn’t settle until the scenes were just right. Shane’s scene involved a violent encounter that we were nervous would spawn the attention of our neighbors. However the night was a success, and were excited to see the final result. Survive the Night should be available soon on Tube. We will keep everyone posted!

In the spirit of the current state of affairs, we dissect the implications of the religious exploitation genre and the evolution of Rapture movies. Despite its far fetched plot lines, one-dimensional storytelling, and often lack luster quality, they seem to be fairly successful. Where does the line lie between art and propaganda? Where will you be when Jesus comes back? We’re pretty sure we’ll still be here after this episode.

When the S-Town podcast aired it was downloaded millions of times in just a few days. It follows the story of John B Macklemore , a reclusive antique clock restorer who lived in the small town of Woodstock Alabama. He contacted the host of This American life podcast Brian Reid about a potential coverup of a supposed murder in his town. All which turned out to be false but someone would end up dying before the podcasts conclusion. Talks of a mini series are in place, but who knows what could happen. We’ve returned from the dead like Ben Hawkins touched us to talk about the riveting HBO drama Carnivale, created by Daniel Knauff. In this episode, we ramble about the many complex and interweaving character arcs, how history plays a major role in its theme, and its tragic and abrupt end that left us all with more questions than answers.

Join us as we celebrate Cobra Kai since the show is now a wrap. Many of us grew up watching the Karate Kid franchise, but little did we know what was to come over 30 years later. We admit we weren’t too sure how this show could possibly work but we were wrong. Six seasons and not one bad episode (which is rare), but what ride it was.
