Ecclesiastes 3:1-11
Solomon turns his attention to the one thing each of us has: time. Time is the picture of God's providence; He has placed eternity in our hearts and we can't properly deal with lafe until we are ready for death.
Ecclesiastes 2:12-26
Most people have the idea that the world is the one that gives enjoyment and God is the One who clubs us when we have fun -- but, in reality, it's the other way around. Purpose cannot be found in any one of the good things found in the world. Life is empty without God.

After stating his qualifications, Solomon journals about his first approaches to finding meaning in life. He discovers that the pursuits of wisdom and pleasure both wind up being dead ends.
Ecclesiastes 1:1-11
Solomon gives us four realities in the natural world that drive home the point of the transitory nature of man, as well as the ultimate futility of his efforts.
While the book of Genesis tells the story of how humans fell into guilt, toil, and mortality, Ecclesiastes tells how man should live. Contrary to many interpretations, it is not ultimately a pessimistic book; but rather one that promotes joy in living.
